Price stabilizing program brings about practical effects

Update: 15-02-2011 | 00:00:00

Our reporter interviewed Mr. Nguyen Van Ban who is Vice Director to Department of Industry and Trade (DoIT) on effects of price stabilizing program. With efforts made by in-charge leaders and enterprises, prices have been controlled during the Tet holiday to prevent price hike and fake scarcity in the market.

The price stabilizing program will last to the end of February, accompanied by plenty of promotional programs.

- How will you evaluate price stabilizing tasks during Tet holiday?

- Under direction of Provincial People’s Committee (PPC), DoIT has joined involved agencies in the grassroots to prepare goods and commodities for Tet holiday through planning for stockpiling approximately VND 2,214 billion worth of goods and commodities. Binh Duong Vinatex, Citimart, Co.op Mart, Hai Long Trade and Service Pte., Thanh Le Company, and Song Be Petroleum are named in the program. Meanwhile, Binh Duong Metro Cash & Carry has taken part into the program by offering VND 60 billion worth of goods and commodities.

As for supermarket not listed in the program, DoIT has directed them to 40 on-the-go stalls across Dau Tieng, Ben Cat, Phu Giao, and Tan Uyen offering people in remote areas access to high quality goods and commodities.

As a whole, thanks to firm forecast of demands and supplies in the market, the stockpile plan has been close to reality to stabilize the prices as well as to ensure enough supplies to people through the Tet holiday.

- However, there remained some goods and commodities of 20-30% higher prices than normal, how can we explain this?

- It is true that poultries, eggs, vegetables, and others in common markets have increased in prices in a few days near the Tet holiday’s eve. Higher demands in those days have prompted prices to rice dramatically. Therefore, all the on-going events in the market have been monitored and updated for timely resolution. Goods and commodities scarcity has not happened thanks to market control efforts.

The effects of price stabilizing program have been impressive in final days near Tet when buying has been tripled and quadrupled. Totally, sale revenue has gained VND 283.2 billion.

- Thank you!
