Prime Minister praises provincial General Hospital in Covid-19 prevention and control

Before working with provincial Party Committee, People's Committee, on the morning of June 27, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and members of the Government's delegation had an inspection tour on the collection and treatment of Covid-19 patients at provincial General Hospital and reminded the hospital to pay attention to layers of protection and infection prevention to avoid cross-infection.

Reporting to the Prime Minister, Dr. Van Quang Tan, Director of provincial General Hospital said that regarding testing capacity, the hospital has implemented the SARS-CoV-2 screening test since January 12. On May 21, the hospital was also equipped with the quick test for SARSCoV-2 virus antigen to serve screening for patients. On May 24, the Pasteur Institute in Ho Chi Minh city appraised and recognized the hospital as the unit being capable of confirmation testing to SARS-CoV-2 by real-time RT-PCR technique.

In the collection and treatment of Covid-19 patients, the hospital has carried out the work at its infectious - tuberculosis department since the province recorded Covid-19 cases. The hospital has arranged facilities with 38 oxygen heads, ventilators, artificial kidneys, ultrasound and X-ray machines at the bed, etc for its isolation area. Since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, the hospital has collected and treated 190 Covid-19 patients. Currently, the hospital is treating 146 Covid-19 patients in its isolation area, including 2 patients on bag oxygen and 2 on mechanical ventilation. The hospital is expected to establish a field hospital with 100 beds to treat Covid-19 patients and implement a plan to expand by 200 beds to meet the expected situation of the pandemic.

Praising Covid-19 prevention and control, collection and treatment of Covid-19 patients at the hospital, the Prime Minister also noted that learning experience from some hospitals and medical facilities that were subjective and neglected when letting the pandemic occur in anti-epidemic places, the hospital must follow a stricter process against the pandemic for Covid-19 patients in order not to be "perforated" from within it.

The Prime Minister also noted layers of protection and infection prevention at the hospital to avoid cross-infection. For those who do this unexpected task, a strict process must be ensured. Along with the special task of treating Covid-19 patients, the hospital needs to ensure its regular tasks. When making this special task, the hospital must have special regimes, management ways and reactions; must connect with other treatment centers to exchange experiences, supplement theory, and apply in practice.

The Prime Minister also requested the hospital to strictly comply with the direction, decentralization and mobilization of the province and all-level authorities in the fight against the pandemic. The hospital must smoothly combine four fields of science, medicine, sociology, and psychology in public healthcare. After exchanging, instructing medical workers at provincial General Hospital, the Prime Minister directly visited relatives of Covid-19 patients being treated at the hospital.
