Production of high-quality fresh vegetables: small projects, big expectations

The researching project of "building and transfering of commercial vegetable farming using hydroponic reflux techniques" is allocated to Hung Dinh of Thuan An Town by the sponsorship and cooperation of Economic Chamber of the town and Center of Biotechnology and Food under the Institute of Biotechnology and Food of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry.  Model of safe vegetables - new approach for farmers The project received the attention of the relevant departments of the provincial and Thuan An Town.After the preparation, the official project was launched in early 2012 on a land of about 1,500m2.In the short term, the project implementation was focused on production of tomatoes, lettuce and peppers in an area of approximately 200m2. Mr. Tran Duc Viet, Director of the Center of Biotechnology and Food, said that to this point, the products of the project have been put on the market, making a big difference and wining consumers' high appreciation. Hydroponic tomatoes have higher nutritional value and richer in minerals than regular tomatoes. The project implementation unit has registered to VietGap for the sake of increasing competitiveness of products. At the same time, many investors in Ho Chi Minh City was seeking for production expansion and to turn the researching place to a center of technology transfer. Mr. Tran Duc Viet, said that the center was associated with the branches in the province and towns regarding organization of training courses and introduction of vegetable production methods using hydroponic reflux techniques to farmers. The center is open and willing to instruct the farmers and would make suggestions and recommendation of basic solutions if local people want to learn about methods of vegetable production. After the study period, Mr. Tran Duc Viet said that, Binh Duong was eligible for the development of urban agriculture, high-tech agriculture and further afield a branded safe vegetable of Binh Duong Province. According to Mr. Viet, local people only needed 200m2 of land and an amount of VND 60-70 million to start up with safe vegetable planting. However, it would be optimal if the farmers use up 3.000m2 of land, then, the investment in automated systems would be more appropriate and more effective. In recent training course for farmers in Hung Dinh and An Thanh Wards on commercial vegetable cultivation process using hydroponic reflux techniques, many farmers were very interested and would like to implement the model.Mr. Le Quoc Hung, Chairman of Association of Farmers Hung Dinh, TX.Thuan An said there were 10 families registered building commercial vegetable farming projects using hydroponic techniques reflux with an area of 2.000m2.Mr Hung said that if the project would be successfully implemented, local people could work on their owns on the project.
