Thuan An town, on May 17, held a conference to partially review the national target program on poverty reduction for the 2016-2018 period.
Since 2006, town-based branch of the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies (VBSP) has disbursed more than VND251billion in loan for 6,443 poor and near-poor households. The town has also actively implemented policies on agricultural-industrial encouragement, healthcare, education, social insurance…for the poor. Along with support policies, the town has upheld socialization in the task of taking care of the poor. The town’s Sponsoring Association for Disabled People, Orphans and Poor Patients has coordinated with provincial Taiwan Business Association to offer 558 gifts and 1,500 kg of rice worth more than VND232million to the local disadvantaged people.
Currently, the town still has 1,305 poor households or 3.16% of total and 455 near-poor ones under the province’s new poverty line. The town is striving to decrease the rate of the local poor households by the end of the year to below 1.5%...
