Environmental protection is one of the important goals to ensure the rapid and sustainable development of industries in the rural economy and to improve the quality of people's lives. Over the past days, along with the process of rural economic development, localities attached special importance to appropriate solutions to maintain and create the sustainable development of the ecological environment.
Appropriate solution
In the context of climate change and market demands changing, localities have implemented many synchronous solutions to promote green economy, green growth in association with environmental protection. Determining agriculture as a strong point, Dau Tieng district focused on production under high-tech agriculture, restructuring the agricultural sector towards increasing added value over the past time.
According to Nguyen Phuong Linh, Chairman of Dau Tieng district’s People's Committee, along with the production process, the district has directed localities to implement measures to collect, manage and treat waste from concentrated livestock and business facilities to avoid environmental pollution and protect producers ‘health. In addition, the district always sets up and promulgates annual plans to inspect food safety at households, production and business establishments, ensuring compliance with food safety and hygiene regulations. All establishments that preliminarily process and process agro-forestry-fishery foods are trained and granted the certificates of safety.
Pham Binh Long, Vice-Chairman of the People's Committee of Minh Tan commune in Dau Tieng district said that there are currently 240 households and 15 farms breeding pigs and chickens on a large-scale under the closed process. The farms are built in accordance with the district's concentrated animal husbandry planning. The sites of construction of farms are far from schools, facilities, hospitals, parks, amusement parks, factories, residential areas, places where people often gather, and main roads. Periodically, breeding facilities are cleaned with the carcasses of animals handled under the regulations. All the local animal husbandry farms have waste and wastewater treatment systems, without environmental pollution.
For cultivation models, many gardeners have applied high technology in the organic direction with economically watering systems to reduce costs, and not used dirty water or wastewater for irrigation. With a durian-growing area of 2 hectares, Nguyen Van Son's household in Minh Tan commune’s Tan Dinh hamlet has implemented the organic growing process in order to improve product quality, contributing to protecting the environment and ensuring producers and consumers' health. Mr. Son shared that his orchard hasn’t absolutely used harmful chemicals and growth stimulants, especially not used genetically modified seeds and materials, and only used composted organic and microbiological fertilizer.
Quality of life improved
The development of rural economy to improve the quality of life of rural people is a key task that localities are aiming at. Developing ecological tourism is considered as an effective solution to protect the environment towards sustainable development. As the largest citrus-growing area in the province, North Tan Uyen district has taken advantage to develop farm economy, forming up many potential farm models for tourism development.
Hieu Liem is the commune with the largest concentrated fruit tree area of North Tan Uyen district, with 62 farms on cultivation and animal husbandry. The local cultivation farms are developed under VietGAP standards with the certificates of food safety and hygiene. Especially, some farms have combined fruit tree production with ecological tourism, contributing to promoting the local typical products, reducing poverty and improving the quality of people's lives in the rural region and environmental protection.
In addition to farms, namely Sol Retreat, Lam Thanh Thuong that have been put into operation, attracting a large number of visitors every year, now the “Green Hill” farm in Hieu Liem commune’s Cay Dau hamlet is also in the process of being built to develop ecotourism models. Ho Cong Truong, the owner of the Green Hill farm said: “Currently, the farm is expanding its area and planting trees to create a landscape. In the immediate future, they will do services such as fishing, coffee…and then develop accommodation services. The Green Hill eco-tourism area is invested and built on the basis of available orchards that are planted and tended under the special process, absolutely complying with VietGAP standards, ensuring food safety and hygiene.
According to Ho Cong Truong, the in-depth effect on many aspects of ecotourism will contribute to improving people's lives, making the countryside more beautiful. However, sustainable ecotourism development needs specific policies to encourage while being under strict management so that the units can feel secure and bravely make investment.
