Province sees bright colors in 2012’s socio-economic picture

Despite difficulties, Binh Duong’s economy in 2012 still gained positive changes with inflation curbed, reasonable growth maintained, social welfare ensured…They were seen as bright colors in the local socio-economic picture of 2012.

Impressive figures

The province’s industrial production value in 2012 was estimated at VND140.66trillion, up 14.2%. Of the total figure, the foreign investment sector accounted for 69.5% while the domestic investment sector accounted for 30.5%. Although the above figure did not fulfill the set target, but it was a considerable achievement, expressing the determination of the province, the business community and people from all walks of life.

The province absorbed 1,437 domestic projects with total investment capital of VND6.485trillion and 456 extra-ones. Currently, the whole province is home to 13,386  domestic enterprises with total investment capital of VND102.771trillion.

Noticeably, the province granted investment licenses to 105 FDI projects with nearly US$1.58mln and allowed 114 FDI enterprises to increase their investment capital by more than US$1mln. The whole province has so far lured 2,117 FDI projects capitalized at more than US$17.3bln.

The province’s export turnover was also estimated at more than US$12bln, up 16%. According to statistics, the whole province has so far lured 1,725 enterprises exporting their products to 193 countries and territories (mainly to U.S, EU, Japan, China, South Korea…).

Possibly speaking, the above results has come from the efforts by the local authorities in building up a favorable investment climate. Le Thanh Cung, Chairman of provincial People’s Committee said that the province has over time mobilized all resources for social development, creating favorable conditions for investment attraction. The province has also bent on reforming administrative procedures, helping enterprises remove their obstacles, organizing seminars to call for big investors…

Many key works put into use

Noticeably, the province spent VND44.92trillion on development of the whole society in 2012, up 24.8%. Many key works for the local socio-economic development were built and inaugurated, including the An Son port project in Thuan An town, the 7A street in Ben Cat district, the Ba Lua bridge, the Thoi An bridge, the DT744 street, the branch C of provincial General Hospital, the phase 1 of Thanh Phuoc port…

The province also held a ceremony to announce the establishment of TDM city and focused on developing some communes in TDM city and Thuan An town into wards. Currently, the province focuses on infrastructure investment of a new urban area in the Binh Duong Industry-Urban-Service Complex and some other key works, including concentrated political-administrative center.

So far, the province has put 8 social housing projects into operation with total floor area of 86,000 sq.m, providing accommodations for 13,700 people. It is expected that Becamex IDC’s social housing development program will put 4,700 sq.m of apartments into use, supplying accommodations for 10,800 people.

The province also announced and implemented an overall urban development project of Binh Duong and TDM city. The Ministry of Construction recognized the expanded My Phuoc township and the expanded Uyen Hung township as the cities of class IV while approving an overall development plan of South Ben Cat and South Tan Uyen urban areas.

Social welfare ensured

In 2012, the province spent VND226bln on taking care of those who rendered services to the nation; building 68 gratitude houses and upgrading 207 others.

The province also used VND167bln from State budget and many other mobilization sources to offer help to people with difficulties. As of late 2012, the whole province only had 3,600 poor households under the province’s poverty line or 1.42% of total, decreasing by 2,859 compared to early this year. The province built 270 unity houses for needy households; gave job consultancy and introduced jobs to 124,000 turns of people…
