Currently, there are also 344 cooperative groups with 5,744 members and total capital of VND34.240bln. They have actively helped each other in having investment capital, transferring sci-tech advancements in production and shifting the structure of plants and animals…, contributing to raising their members’ income.

Established in 2014, Tan Vinh Hiep commune’s safe vegetable cooperative group in Tan Uyen town now has 9 members with total farming area of around 10 hectares. Cooperative group leader Huynh Trung Kien said that many members have so far escaped poverty, which was the most obvious effectiveness of the cooperative group. Therefore, the cooperative group has always tried to get an effective operation towards sustainable development, supplying safe agricultural products for the market.

Provincial Alliance of Cooperatives said that collective economic models over the past time contributed to generating jobs for laborers in the province. Province-based cooperatives annually create jobs for 8,000 laborers with members’ average income reaching VND42mln a year. On average, the number of cooperatives in the province increases by 10% every year.

Improving operational efficiency

Tran Van Thay, Chairman of provincial Alliance of Cooperative said that the province’s collective economy made strong changes over the past time. But, there were still some cooperatives with ineffective operation.

For better results, the province will further improve the effectiveness of collective economic models; promote collective economic models in association with new rural construction and other socio-economic development programs; simultaneously expand coherence in developing cooperative models towards industrialization and modernization, make a shift on economic structure under the local overall orientations.

The province will also replicate typical cooperative models in all aspects under the 2012 Law on Cooperatives; promote the application of sci-tech advancements and be determined to deal with ineffective cooperatives…

At a recent meeting with the Steering Boards of Collective Economic Development at all levels of the province, provincial People’s Committee Vice-Chairman Tran Thanh Liem emphasized that localities needed to determine that collective economic development was a major task, so they must map out action programs and concrete plans to improve and foster collective economic models. Members of the steering boards at all levels also needed to organize trips to localities with good ways in collective economic development to learn experience from them for better results.

As planned, Binh Duong will strive to have 80% of farmers participating in collective economic models or using services from cooperative groups. The average income of members at cooperatives will reach more than VND58mln per capita per year.
