Provincial Steering Board for Cattle and Poultry Diseases Prevention, on Feb.15, held a conference to sum up its task against cattle and poultry diseases in 2010 and design orientations for 2011.

Reportedly, the situation of bird flu and foot-and-mouth disease across the province were under control last year, but the rate of vaccination against diseases in poultry and cattle was not high.

Also according to the assessment of the steering board, the local livestock breeding sector was heavily hit by blue-ear pig disease. There were 30,599 sick pigs, 14,252 of which were cured or 47% of total. The number of sick pigs culled was 16,347 with a total weight of more than 787 tons. More than VND18.4bln was spent on supporting this task…

To prevent the recurrence of blue-ear pig disease, the steering board will made some targets of getting 100% of concentrated breeding farms with vaccination; supporting 100% of vaccine cost for poor and small-scale breeding households…

Addressing the conference, provincial vice-chairman Tran Van Nam spoke highly of the steering board’s task against diseases in poultry and cattle, especially blue-pig disease in 2010.

He also suggested the steering board to strength education of how to breed and prevent diseases in poultry and cattle among the local breeding households; tighten control over the slaughter and transport of cattle and poultry in the province; have determination to eradicate illegal slaughter houses and step by step omit breeding facilities in residential areas…
