Provincial Association of Former Volunteers: Heroic in wartime, supportive in peacetime

Early July 12, all-time formers volunteer soldiers shall meet to remember their time and mark the traditional day of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers (July 15, 1950 to July 15, 2013) Mrs. Vu Thanh Phuong, Chair of Provincial Association of Former Volunteer Soldiers hands saving books to female membersIn wartime, volunteer soldiers have been with the armed force through all walks of the mission carrying weapons and ammo, contributing to the grand victory on April 30, 1975 to liberate the South and unify the nation.In 1965, under leadership of the Party, officers of the then Thu Dau Mot Province mobilised a mass of volunteer soldiers to combat fields. In the demanding situation, on December 1, 1965 the Thu Dau Mot unit of volunteer soldiers was established with 100 members in a responsive bid to Phu Loi prison poisoning. The unit was named 112 which was the number of inmates poisoned in the event.The unit has been coordinated to Regiment No. 9 in battles of Phuoc Long, Dong Xoai, Nha Do – Bong Trang, Bau Bang, Lai Khe, etc.The special unit of 112 had heroine Doan Thi Lien, a martyr showed up the team spirit. In 1966 she was fallen in a fierce raid. Before her last breath, she called upon her comrades to be determined in saving injured soldiers. Thus, her spirit shined throught the battle fields in triumph song of the South liberation and nation unification. The landmark event of 1968 was a great cause of Doan Thi Lien Volunteer Soldiers set up by Thu Dau Mot Province in September 1967. The introduction ceremony was held at Hamlet 7 of Thanh An Commune in Dau Tieng District.The unit ensured coordination with logistic units to transport weapons, foods, and neccessities to support injured soldiers and ready for battles. The unit succeeded in accomplishing their duty for the campaign in the spring of 1968 and transporting injured soldiers to the base.As war passed by, the remaining volunteer soldiers of C112 and Doan Thi Lien Volunteer Soldiers returned to their normal life. They was keeping in touch through contacting channels with policies readied for them. On August 8, 2005, the Provincial People’s Committee issued Decision No. 165 to establish the Association of Former Volunteer Soldiers to enable their official meetings later on.Up to date, the Association has facilitated a lot of meetings and gathered 770 members in the spirit of mutual support in peace time.
