Provincial Trade Union further innovates, increasing competitiveness

Update: 05-04-2019 | 11:33:23

The Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) came into force for Vietnam on January 14, 2019. According to the CPTPP, Vietnam’s Trade Union is not the only organization representing laborers, so it needs to improve its activities for higher competitiveness to absorb more trade unionists.

Competitiveness improved

When the CPTPP came into effect, Vietnam’s Trade Union is not the only organization representing laborers. It will face severe competitiveness with other representative organizations in keeping and absorbing members. Its development of members and trade union locals will also encounter difficulties.

Ngo Duy Hieu, Vice-Chairman of Vietnam General Confederation of Labor said that over the past years, Vietnam’s Trade Union organized a lot of practical activities, protecting laborers’ legitimate rights and interests, but there were many problems for change. Therefore, putting forward solutions to redress shortcomings and enhance competitiveness is an urgent issue that needs to be done by trade unions at all levels immediately…

Practical solutions

Initially, Vietnam’s Trade Union needs to focus on disseminating opportunities and challenges from the CPTPP for Trade Union officials and laborers; vigorously change its operational forms and contents…, according to Mr.Hieu.

Over the past time, provincial Trade Unions at all levels had many innovative and creative ways in line with the new context. They concentrated on taking care of trade unionists and laborers’ legitimate rights and interests via many practical activities such as actively taking part in building up policies in favor of trade unionists, laborers; implementing democratic regulations and dialogues at workplace; negotiating and signing mass labor deals with more advantageous provisions for laborers; organizing programs, namely “Gathering in Tet holiday”, “Sentimental bus”, “Workers’ Month”…

Especially, the whole province now has a total of 1,528 valid mass labor deals applied in enterprises with trade union locals or 58.8% of total. In 2018, trade unions at all levels of the province made inspection tours over 68 enterprises; realized 4,647 talks on legal consultancy via telephone for 10,700 laborers…

Truong Thi Bich Hanh, Chairwoman of provincial Labor Union said that provincial Labor Union has launched an emulation movement of “Effective innovation, creation in Trade Union activities”  among trade unions at all levels this year. The contents of the movement are to improve thought and action of trade union locals in realizing entrusted tasks; build up a strong Trade Union organization and methods to get access to trade unionists and laborers; creatively build new models….

Besides, Vietnam’s Trade Union must further bend on admitting members, developing trade union locals; improve the quality of trade union officials…With all efforts in operational content and form improvement, the Trade Union will surmount challenges and take full advantage of opportunities for better development, thereby better doing its role representing laborers and taking care of their legitimate interests and rights.
