Putting more effort into caring for contributors

Expressing the spirit “drinking water, remember its source", Binh Duong province has paid special attention to policy families in order to share difficulties, offset losses, and improve living condition of them. Therefore, Binh Duong is 1 in 2 the first provinces reaching 100% communes, wards, and towns recognized as "Doing good works of invalids, martyrs, contributors” by the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs.

Unceasing gratitude

In July, leaders of Party Committee, People's Council, Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, agencies, sectors, and localities of the province visited, gave gifts to policy families to express gratitude of current generations to those who sacrificed blood and bones for the national independence. Policy families were so happy as receiving meaningful gifts from the Party and State.

Vietnamese heroic mother Nguyen Thi Coi (born 1922) in Thanh An commune, Dau Tieng district was so happy and set up to grab hands of each delegation’s member to thank. Her husband was martyr Tran Van Lang (died in 1969), his son was martyr Tran Van Cai (died in 1969) at battlefields in Dau Tieng district. Provincial and local leadership usually visit and present gifts to her family on big national holidays.

Mr. Pham Van Canh, Deputy Secretary of provincial Party Standing Committee, visited, gave gifts to Vietnamese heroic mother Do Thi Deo in Vinh Tan commune, Tan Uyen town.

On occasion of War Invalids and Martyr’s Day (July 27th), North Tan Uyen district Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs Bureau offered 2 new gratitude houses to veteran Nguyen Dac Thang in Tan Thanh commune, and martyr’s son Dinh Van Kem in Thuong Tan commune. They did not hide the joy of being in a new spacious house.

The joy was multiplied at her hoary age, as wounded soldier’s mother Le Thi Danh in Vinh Truong hamlet, Vinh Tan commune, Tan Uyen town receiving a new house worth VND50 million. Her wounded son, Le Van Suong, said, he felt delighted that his contributions in the war had been offset. He thanked the Party, State, and benefactors for supporting his family as well as other policy families.

Wounded soldier Nguyen Thanh Nha in hamlet 4, Lac An commune, North Tan Uyen district said: “I hope that provincial and local leaders would increasingly promote gratitude work. I will also try my best to follow uncle Ho’s teaching, bring up well my children to become good citizens”.

Expressing gratitude

Binh Duong province has over 52,000 contributors (persons credited for contributions to the revolution) including 1,672 Vietnam heroic mothers, 16,155 martyrs, 3,613 wounded soldiers, 658 sick soldiers, 4,656 contributors subsidized once and monthly... The province has defined taking care of policy beneficiaries as a key task. Practical deeds, such as: offering gratitude houses, saving books, subsidies, health care, supporting home-based business…, have eased the pain  of policy families and contributors in the province.

Particularly, the province has mobilized contributions from units, businesses to support 97 alive Vietnam heroic mothers, 116 seriously wounded soldiers, and other poor martyr’s families; taken good care of Vietnam heroic mothers and seriously wounded soldiers’ health; organized physician delegations to give free health check-up and medication to policy families on big occasions.

Apart from monthly subsidies, policy families, contributors have also received meaningful gifts. After 18 years (1997- 2015), over 683,452 policy beneficiaries received gifts with total value of over VND350.7 billion, more than 5,600 gratitude houses. The province also disburses annually VND1-2 billion to organize trips to uncle Ho’s mausoleum, Con Dao, and Phu Quoc for 1,102 contributors.

The province collected and moved 1,726 martyr’s remains to provincial Martyrs’ Cemetery; simultaneously, established 59 communal memorial steles, 15 victory monuments. The province invested over VND158 billion in renovating martyrs’ cemeteries in the province; over VND9 billion in building 35 monuments.

According to Ms. Huynh Thi Hong Thu, Deputy Director of provincial Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, thanks to attention of the province, policy families have developed home-based businesses to improve their life. There are now only 13 poor policy families. In order for gratitude work to be deeper, the province has also cared for spiritual life, vocational training, job introducing for policy families; paid attention to education for children of contributors to become good citizens.
