Update: 14-02-2023 | 12:16:22

The People's Committee of Quang Tri province unveiled on February 13 that the first batch of 15 tonnes of organic rice had been officially exported to the EU.

This move marks a fresh turning point in the locality's agricultural industry after several years of shifting to organic production.

The export shipment was officially confirmed by the People's Committee of Quang Tri province after the locality reached an agreement on price and inspection criteria between producer Quang Tri Organic Agricultural Products Joint Stock Company and NHP Provide Company, s.r.o. of the Czech Republic.

A total of 15 tonnes of Quang Tri organic rice in the first shipment will be delivered to Da Nang port and then shipped in mid-February at the price of US$1,800 per tonne. The rice amount will then be distributed in markets such as Germany, Czech Republic, Sweden, and France.

After the shipment of 15 tonnes, it is expected that about 30 tonnes to 50 tonnes of Quang Tri organic rice will be exported to Europe each month.

Quang Tri organic rice has been produced by local farmers since 2017, with the organic rice cultivation following special processes and criteria.

The People's Committee of Quang Tri province stated that before entering the European market, Quang Tri organic rice has fully met 821 quality criteria according to organic standards by relevant Vietnamese agencies.

According to a discovery made by Japan’s University of Hiroshima that there are two precious compounds, Momilactone A and Momilactone B in this rice variety. These are substances that prove effective in fighting diabetes, gout, and obesity.

Ha Sy Dong, standing vice chairman of Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee, said the export of the first batch of organic rice to the European market is anticipated to open bright prospects ahead for the locality's agricultural industry, noting that the move will help farmers to improve their living standards and boost their income.
