Raising awareness of the laws among workers

Over the past time, Thuan An district’s Labor Union teamed up with relevant agencies to intensify awareness and education of the laws among workers, especially those working for non-state companies…

 

Thuan An district is now home to more than 1,900 businesses, including 573 FDI ones. The birth and evolution of these businesses has lured a large number of immigrant laborers. So far, the whole district has had nearly 6,200 lodging facilities with more than 93,800 rooms, providing accommodations for more than 243,800 lodgers.

 

The increasing number of laborers has also made the district’s order and security become more complicated. This has brought challenges for the district’s Labor Union in the tasks of gathering, mobilizing workers, especially intensifying awareness and education of the laws among those who have worked for non-state businesses. Currently, the district’s Labor Union manages 350 trade union locals, including 281 businesses’ ones with more than 51,000 laborers.

 

The district’s Labor Union and its affiliates have had close cooperation with the local authorities and mass organizations to well realize the law dissemination and education work among workers. They have also defined that the goal of law dissemination and education work is to constantly raise workers’political stance and their professional capacity…

 

Over the past five years, the district’s Labor Union organized 1,132 meetings on law dissemination and education for more than 152,000 workers; cooperated with mass organizations to set up 166 legal bags and bookstores at 35 lodging facilities with nearly 10,400 book titles. Trade union locals were also equipped with bulletin boards, facilitating education work of the laws among workers.

 

The local Labor Union’s legal support group also gave legal consultancy for more than 850,000 workers and 127 businesses; received and dealt with 255 workers’ complaints. In the first six months of 2010, it provided legal consultancy for 50 cases; satisfactorily settled 26 workers’ complaints, contributing to stabilizing the local labor situation.

 

Vo Thi Thanh Huong, chairwoman of Thuan An district’s Labor Union said that the efficiency from the dissemination and education work among workers was very obvious. Through meetings on legal consultancy, workers herein bravely put in-depth questions to the local agencies for explanation. They also had better performance in obeying the laws…
