Red Cross to deliver free rice to storm-affected provinces

 The Vietnam Red Cross (VNRC) on January 5 commenced delivery of 2,100 tonnes of rice to people in 10 provinces that were affected by natural disasters in 2009.

The rice was donated by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, in response to VNRC’s appeal.

Five kilos of rice will be given to each of 210,000 people from 50,000 households whose primary incomes and crops were lost to the natural disasters of 2009. They are from 10 provinces and cities: Quang Nam, Kon Tum, Thua Thien Hue, Da Nang, Dak Lak, Quang Tri, Quang Binh, Ha Tinh, Nghe An and Thanh Hoa.

The delivery is scheduled for completion by January 10, 2010.
