Referee Vo Quang Vinh receives “2012 Gold Whistle” title

Update: 08-09-2012 | 00:00:00

Vo Quang Vinh comes first in the selection of the best referee of Vietnam in 2012. Notably, the top three referees of last year are still in the top three of this year.

This is the second consecutive year Vinh won the title. According to an announcement released on September 5, Vinh had 352 points, 160 points higher than referee Vu Bao Linh, who rank second.

Vinh’s biggest rival this year is not Linh but Vo Minh Tri, one of the best referees in Asia. However, Tri was not among the candidates of the selection owing to his serious mistake in the game between Thanh Hoa and Hai Phong in the early round of V-League 2012.

Vinh could overcome Tri to become Vietnam’s best referee because Vinh did not commit serious mistakes like Tri. In terms of qualification, Tri is still more highly appreciated than Vinh. Even Vinh recognized this fact.

Nguyen Trong Thu ranks third, with 88 points. The top three referees (Vinh – Linh – Thu) of Vietnam this year is the same with that of 2011.

The fourth and the fifth referees are Phung Dinh Dung (86 points) and Nguyen Duc Vu (47 points).

Phung Manh Long wins the “Gold Flag” to be Vietnam’s most outstanding referee assistant of the year, with 280 points. Nguyen Hoang Minh ranks second with 204 points. Nguyen Phong Vu comes third.

Experts said that Vietnamese referees worked better this year. There were no big scandals related to referees in 2012.
