Mastering the characteristics, potentials and strengths of the locality and grasping the economic reform policy from the 6th Congress of the Party, Song Be province had seized the opportunity and implemented a completely new direction in economic development taking industry as the foundation for breakthrough. The province has directed the units to concentrate strength and efficiency in the general implementation of construction, renovation and embellishment of economic zones, industrial parks, infrastructure investment, renovation, embellishment and upgrading of urban and rural areas to bringh Song Be from a poor province to become an edge in the economic growth quadrangle economy in the southern key economic region, opening up opportunities for the renovation in the next stages of Binh Duong in the future.
The planning of Binh Duong province for 2021-2030 with a vision to 2050 is an important tool to realize the goal of building Binh Duong into a modern industrial center, smart city, innovation zone and driving force of regional and national development.
Inheriting the very important achievements of Song Be province, Binh Duong province begins its 26-year development with the strategic goal to develop industrialization, urbanization, and modernization. Construction planning is implemented in accordance with the province's socio-economic development strategy as the master plan for the development of the system of urban centers and residential and rural areas, industrial development planning, general planning on construction of Thu Dau Mot urban area and planning on townships, detailed planning on construction of industrial zones, clusters, residential areas on a legal basis for investment and construction.
At the same time, many construction projects of traffic infrastructure, infrastructure of modern industrial zones and clusters, connectivity, service infrastructure and urban areas have been focused on implementing by the province. The most typical highlight for Binh Duong's new breakthrough is the formation of Binh Duong Industrial - Service - Urban Complex with modern infrastructure and continual connection with the region and key economic zones of southern areas. In particular, the urban service area of 1,600 hectares with a central area of 1,000 hectares has attracted many international corporations and high-tech enterprises coming to invest.
On the basis of a triple-helix strategy including infrastructure, industry, and urban development, and investment potentials, Binh Duong has become a bright spot in terms of attracting investment capital inflows and developing the economy, society and international integration. The development process has helped Binh Duong accumulate a synchronous urban and traffic technical infrastructure foundation for forming a modern and civilized urban shape.
Currently, the total length of the road system in the province has increased 3.5 times compared to 1997, which was 7,882km. All provincial roads and roads in districts, towns and cities have been asphalted. Of which, 250km of roads have now been with 6 lanes and more. Binh Duong will soon complete the main segments of the Vanh Dai 3 route and some sections of the Vanh Dai 4 passing through the province, integrating directly into the main intra-provincial trunk roads such as My Phuoc - Tan Van connecting to the ports and international airport. The system of traffic infrastructure, trees, lighting, water drainage, urban roads are invested synchronously; the rural transport system is invested to meet new rural standards and create a driving force for urban development, forming many new housing and urban areas.
Up to now, the rate of approved general planning has reached 100%; the rate of approved zoning planning has reached 91.67%; the rate of newly approved rural planning has reached 100%; the urbanization rate of the province has reached 84%; the percentage of households supplied with clean and hygienic water has reached 99.63%.The province has completed the criteria for upgrading urban areas according to the roadmap. Four cities (Thu Dau Mot, Thuan An, Di An, Tan Uyen), 1 town (Ben Cat) are now residing in Binh Duong. According to urban classification, Binh Duong province has 1 urban area of grade 1 (Thu Dau Mot city), 2 urban centers of grade 2 (Thuan An city, Di An city), 2 urban centers of grade 3 (Ben Cat town, Tan Uyen city), 5 urban areas of grade 5 in the districts of Dau Tieng, Phuoc Vinh, Lai Uyen, Tan Binh and Tan Thanh.

In the context of the explosion of the 4th industrial revolution, Binh Duong in 2016 cooperated with Eindhoven (from Netherlands) to implement the Smart City project with the triple-helix model, placing people and knowledge as the focus, taking cooperation and connection as the motto, and promoting innovation in the core. Over the past time, the project has strongly contributed to the outstanding development of Binh Duong, laying the basic foundations and positioning the province in the international arena.
In order to create a breakthrough, the provincial Party Committee in 2020 has unanimously approved the "Binh Duong Innovation Zone" Project as proposed by Becamex IDC. Binh Duong New City was selected as Binh Duong Smart Zone - a new urban center interwoven with high-class housing areas serving professionals with resettlement areas, social housing areas serving low-income people, equality in access to modern technical infrastructure, social infrastructure, health and education system, cultural and sports institutions. This is the foundation for building a humane, sustainable and harmonious society. Therefore, Binh Duong has become a place worth living, becoming everyone's hometown. The population size of the province is nearly 2.8 million, of which people from other localities come to live, work and study are accounting for 54%. Binh Duong is one of the first localities to achieve a high average income, with a per capita GRDP of USD 7,000 a year.
For 2 consecutive years of 2021 and 2022, Binh Duong was honored by the Intelligent Community Forum (ICF) as one of 7 communities with smart development strategies in the world. The success affirmed that the development direction of Binh Duong Smart City was right and appropriate.
