Renowned bubble magician proud of his haft Vietnamese blood

Although living in the US, renowned bubble musician and holder of 18 Guinness World Records Fan Yang never forgets his haft Vietnamese origin. He says his father is Hungarian but his Mother is Vietnamese (born in the northern city of Haiphong) His bubble art has won the hearts of audiences worldwide. In Vancouver in 2012, Fan Yang managed to envelop 181 people in one huge bubble. Fan Yang’s 30-year career is a celebration of colour and creativity. Far away from home As his mother, (now 88) is living in Hanoi, Fan Yang plans to visit the homeland on a regular basic. During his tight performance schedule in mid-June, he still spared time to explore Ha Long Bay. “I visit Vietnam six or seven times a year. During my Asian tours I seize every available opportunity to see my Mum in Hanoi,” he says. Fan Yang’s mother married his Hungarian father who served in Vietnam as a career solider of the French army when it occupied the country. After the French hoop withdrawal, His father stayed in Vietnam until the early 1960s then left for the former Yugoslavia when Fan Yang was only two years old. The family later became Canadian citizens. Fan Yang says he has studied Vietnamese to deepen his understanding of the country’s traditional customs and culinary art. As his wife is Vietnamese, they enjoy Vietnamese dishes, including some with fermented shrimp sauce. In his most recent Vietnam tour he and his close friend who is also a famous Italian magician performed in Quang Ninh province, drawing enthusiastic applause from the audiences. Fan Yang says he will return to Vietnam nest year. Creative talent and accidental chemistry Fan Yang's prove a particular hit with children around the globe and his recorded performances are broadcast on a variety of prestigious TV channels. With an instrument resembling a racket, and soapy water, Fan Yang can weave bubbles in different shapes, sizes, and colours. Fan Yang says his great passion originated from a childhood wish to protect water bubbles from bursting. He delved into researching the best chemicals for bubble creation and debuted his first magic show at the age of 18. Fan Yang began performing overseas in 1984, each show then lasting only five minutes- too short to compare with iteration of three hours or more. Fan Yang's bubble recipe uses natural ingredients that carry no health risks. “It took me ten years to develop the non-toxic chemical,” Fan Yang confides. Fan Yang's enduring passion has inspired him to write a book for younger generations to get the knock of making colorful magical bubbles well as he does. VOV
