Resources prioritized for efficient processing of flooding areas

Update: 18-10-2023 | 14:27:25

On the afternoon of October 17, Nguyen Van Danh, Deputy Chairman of Binh Duong provincial People's Committee, chaired a working session with departments, branches and localities that have flooded areas in the province.

Reporting at the meeting, Huynh Pham Tuan Anh, Deputy Director of the provincial Department of Construction, said that flooded points in the province tend to increase due to the rapid urban sprawl. In 2022, the whole province have 64 flooding points that are being treated. In 2023, there are 15 more flooding section but only 5 can be treated. Currently, the whole province has 74 flooding areas being treated. Some places were flooded due to problems in site clearance and difficulties in funding.

The downstream area of the Saigon River is susceptible to severe flooding due to rain combined with tides and the flood discharge of Dau Tieng Lake. The solution to limit flooding is to build more tidal gates on the Saigon River, passing through the areas of Thu Dau Mot city and Thuan An city.

Speaking in conclusion, Nguyen Van Danh noted that localities need to increase vigilance against "hot spots" of flooding, arrange response forces to promptly handle and minimize incidents, causing damage to people's property and lives. It should regularly mobilize, propagate and handle cases of encroachment on canals and canals to maintain environmental hygiene, without discarding garbage into canals, dykes and sewer systems to limit water drainage.

Nguyen Van Danh requested localities to organize response forces to promptly handle situations at flood-hit places to protect people's health and properties.

Nguyen Van Danh requested that departments and branches need to coordinate and come up with fundamental solutions to effectively handle flooding points, pay attention to prioritizing resources for flood prevention and urban drainage projects in short-term, medium-term and long-term investment plans. In the immediate future, they should focus on handling local flooding points, reducing the impact on production and people's lives. Construction and investment planning must be synchronous, limiting new flooding points in the future.
