Rising up in a new era

Update: 31-08-2024 | 13:27:21

Part 3: Aspiration for prosperity

The August Revolution of 1945 propelled our nation to rise and stand shoulder-by-shoulder with other nations around the world. Historical reality has gradually affirmed our nation's position and strength, especially in the process of deep international integration as we see today. With the spirit of patriotism, great national unity, self-reliance and a fierce desire for independence, freedom and happiness, Vietnam will advance into a new era, an era of the nation's resurgence…

Building up a “more dignified, beautiful” country

This year marks the 79th anniversary of the August Revolution and the National Day, September 2, coinciding with the 55th anniversary of fulfilling the wishes and sacred testament of President Ho Chi Minh (1969-2024). During his lifetime, he had “only one desire, an utmost desire, which was to see our country completely independent, our people completely free, everyone with enough food and clothing, and access to education”. He dedicated his entire life to the cause of national liberation and human emancipation. It was not by chance that when the August Revolution succeeded, the people's government was born, and our country was named the "Democratic Republic of Vietnam; Independence - Freedom - Happiness". Independence, freedom and happiness were not only his principles for building the nation, but also the development manifesto of the Vietnamese people…

Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee and Fatherland Front Committee solemnly hold a meeting to commemorate the 79th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day, September 2

In 1966, during the fierce stage of the resistance war against the United States, he issued a call stating clearly: “The war might last five years, ten years, twenty years or longer. Hanoi, Haiphong and other cities and enterprises might be destroyed, but the Vietnamese people are not afraid! Nothing is more precious than independence and freedom. When victory is achieved, our people will rebuild our country to be more dignified, more beautiful!”... Before passing away, he left a testament: “The entire Party and all our people unite in striving to build a peaceful, unified, independent, democratic and strong Vietnam, contributing its worthy share to the world’s revolutionary cause…”.

Under the Party's leadership, following his call, with the spirit of “Nothing is more precious than independence and freedom”, the entire Vietnamese nation united as one, achieving one victory after another, liberating the nation, unifying the country, successfully implementing reforms and steadily advancing towards socialism. With its indomitable will and fierce desire for independence, the Vietnamese nation has achieved significant accomplishments with historical meaning. As the late General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong once said: "With all humility, we can still say that our country has never had the stature, potential, position, and international prestige that it does today. These achievements are the result of the creativity and the outcome of constant efforts over many terms by the entire Party, the people and our military...".

“Standing shoulder-by-shoulder with powers across the five continents”

To this day, the country has achieved very proud accomplishments, just as President Ho Chi Minh once wished: "To build a country that is more decent and more beautiful". The political situation is stable, the people's lives are prosperous and happy, independence and sovereignty are maintained, and Vietnam's position and prestige on the international arena have been improved.

After nearly 40 years of implementing the “doi moi” (renewal) cause, our country has achieved significant accomplishments with historical meaning in various fields. Particularly, economy and society have got more thriving, with people's living standards improved constantly. The Party and political system have become purer and stronger; national defense and security  have been maintained and strengthened; foreign relations and international integration are deepening and Vietnam's international position and reputation have been improved constantly.

Especially during the 13th Party Congress tenure, the world and regional situation saw many rapid, complex and unpredictable developments. The Central Party Committee, Politburo and Secretariat have led, directed and organized the implementation of the 13th Party Congress Resolution drastically, comprehensively and effectively. Our country has further overcome all difficulties and challenges, achieving important, comprehensive, and notable results in many areas... It is forecasted that by 2045, our country will further make new strides, striving to become a developed, high-income country with a fully, comprehensively and modernly oriented socialist market economy, and a democratic, equal and civilized society...

With the aspiration to rise, the entire Party, army and people are striving to successfully implement the Resolution of the 13th Party Congress, looking forward to celebrating the 80th anniversary of independence and the 50th anniversary of national reunification; determined to realize development goals by 2030, marking 100 years of the nation under the Party’s leadership; and by 2045, celebrating the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, making Vietnam a developed, high-income country where people live in warmth and happiness, in a secure, safe, and peaceful environment, leaving no one behind.

Speaking at the ceremony commemorating the 79th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day, September 2, General Secretary and State President To Lam affirmed that under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, by promoting the spirit of "self-reliance, self-confidence, national pride", with the driving force of great national unity and pure international solidarity, and by strongly mobilizing the people's strength, tightly connecting the Party's will with the people's hearts as the foundation, Vietnam will surely advance into a new era, the era of the nation's resurgence, constantly striving to make more contributions  to maintaining peace, stability, and development in the region and the world…

The general objective identified by the 13th Party Congress is: "Enhance the leadership capacity, ruling capacity and fighting capacity of the Party; build a pure, strong, comprehensive Party and political system; strengthen and increase the people's trust in the Party, State and socialist regime; ignite the aspiration for a prosperous and happy country; promote the will and strength of national unity combined with the strength of the era; vigorously, comprehensively and synchronously advance the cause of renewal, industrialization and modernization; build and firmly protect the Fatherland, maintain a peaceful and stable environment; strive to make our country a developed nation with a socialist orientation by the mid-21st century"…
Along with the general objective, the 13th Party Congress also identified specific goals. Accordingly, by 2025, on the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification, Vietnam aims at being a developing country with modern industry, surpassing a high middle-income level. By 2045, on the 100th anniversary of the founding of the country, Vietnam aims at becoming a developed country with high income…
