After the revolutionary victory in Ha Noi, Southern Party Committee decided to launch mass rising up to regain power in Saigon and other provinces. At night August 24th 1945, many uprising groups of workers, farmers, youngsters, students, pupils and other working classes from provinces marched with stamping noises into Saigon.  The insurrection regaining power in Saigon on August 25th 1945  On August 25th 1945, people of Saigon and many provinces like Cho Lon, Gia Dinh, Soc Trang, Long Xuyen, Vinh Long, Ba Ria, Thu Dau Mot, Chau Doc, Tra Vinh, Tay Ninh, Bien Hoa, Ben Tre, Sa Dec rose up successfully, after Viet Minh seized the government at Ha Noi, Hue and some provinces.Obeying the uprising order of the National Resistance Committee of Southern Party Committee, at Saigon, at night August 24th 1945, revolutionary people in Saigon – Cho Lon and surrounding provinces carrying spears, bamboo sticks, etc., advanced toward inner Saigon to attend the uprising. Forces of Youth Union members and pioneer youths were everywhere, being ready to occupy assigned targets.From 7 PM of August 24th, uprising army took possession of police stations, railway stations, post offices, districts, army posts, etc. By 10 PM, Le Lai army under Pioneer Youth occupied Kham Sai palace. Gold-starred red flag was pulled up among people armies being boiling with hatred. Invasion of “Southern Marshal palace” did not encounter any resistances, because most senior officials had participated in the Pioneer Youth. Particularly, Catinat Secret Agent Department fought back weakly and then was crushed by the uprising army.Early August 25th, more than one million of people advanced toward Saigon, shouted slogans like: “Completely independent Vietnam!”, “All power belong to Viet Minh!”, “Forever Indochinese Communist Party!”, “Independence or death!”. Gold-starred red flags filled streets, flapped on offices.In the meeting in front of City Major’ s palace at 1 PM of August 25th, Southern Provisional Administrative Committee Chairman Mr. Tran Van Giau declared solemnly: “Today is the most glorious day in South Vietnam history. We, Provisional Administrative Committee, on behalf of all Southern people, declare: Democratic Republic Regime is officially established at Southern Vietnam. We do not acknowledge Southern dynasty regime and struggle resolutely against colonialism. No foreign parties can plead to refute this decision. Vietnam is completely independent. On behalf of Southern Viet Minh Front, we assume the responsibility to hold the Southern government and will transfer to the National Assembly”. Attendees of the meeting were happy because of the splendid triumph of the nation. This was a great revolutionary congregation in the national history, demonstrating will and determination of the whole nation. The victory of this insurrection had a crucial meaning to uprisings at other Southern provinces.On September 2nd 1945, at Ba Dinh Square (Ha Noi), in the enormous meeting of tens of thousands of people, President Ho Chi Minh, on behalf of the Interim government, articulated solemnly Declaration of Independence: Democratic Republic Vietnam was officially born.The success of August Revolution brought our country into a new era of freedom. For the first time in history, our people from slaves became owner of country. Our Party from an unofficial Party became the political leader of the whole nation. Our country from a semi feudal colony became an independent, democratic country. The August Revolution opened a new horizon for people to build a prosperous and happy life. Evaluating the historical significance of the August Revolution, uncle Ho wrote: “Not only Vietnamese working class and people but also other oppressed nations can be proud.
