Update: 05-01-2013 | 00:00:00

Under the support of the Youth Union, youths in the rural region of Binh Duong have risen up to enrich themselves. Many economic models from them have been developed with high economic efficiency.

Getting access to capital

In 2005, Nguyen Thi Cam Nhung, a youth at An My hamlet, An Son commune, Thuan An town bravely got involved in animal husbandry by a loan of VND8mln from the local Youth Union plus her saving money. Two years later, she cleared her old debt and continued borrowing additional VND20mln to expand her facility of breeding pigs and “tam hoang” chickens.

Nguyen Thi Cam Nhung and his pig-breeding facility  Along with capital sources, the local Youth Union and mass organizations also helped Nhung attend classes on agricultural promotion, contributing to promoting her animal husbandry model. Nhung is now the owner of an animal husbandry facility with 1,000 “tam hoang” chickens and 50 pigs, helping her secure an annual income of more than VND35mln. So far, she has also set up 2 groups on animal husbandry with 15 members, contributing to generating stable jobs for the local youths.

Born in an agricultural family, Pham Minh Tuan, a youth in Tan Uyen district’s Uyen Hung township graduated from a college and decided to set himself up in business by the orchid-growing model. In 2008, after attending a class on how to grow orchids held by the township’s Youth Union, Tuan got a loan of VND10mln to buy nearly 500 orchid pots. Currently, Tuan is well-known as an orchid millionaire with an annual income of nearly VND300.

Tuan is very enthusiastic in sharing experience on orchid growing with other youths. He also set up a cooperative group in production. He said: “I has just mobilized members of the group to tap rubber latex for a member of the group while preparing to expand my orchid garden with around 2,000 pots…”.

According to statistics, provincial Youth Union last year coordinated with the Bank for Social Policies to guide many youths to get VND482mln in loan for economic development. The model of “youths helping each other in economic development” also continued being replicated, contributing to increasing income for the families of the local youths.

Vocational guidance

In addition to support regarding capital sources, provincial Youth Union and its affiliates last year offered other help to youths in the rural region, including transferring sci-tech advancements, setting up loan-giving groups, organizing training classes in line with the feature of each locality…

For example, Dau Tieng district’s Youth Union organized 5 classes on animal husbandry and how to tend rubber trees and tap their rubber latex. Di An town’s Youth Union teamed up with relevant agencies to open 2 classes on transferring sci-tech advancements for more than 150 Youth Union cadres. Phu Giao district’s Youth Union joined hands with the local agricultural promotion station to implement 2 sci-tech tentative points with 2.5 hectares of rubber trees in Tam Lap commune. Tan Uyen district’s Youth Union also teamed up with sectors and mass organizations to organize classes on transferring sci-tech advancements in agricultural production for more than 240 turns of Youth Union members…

Pham Hong Thang, Vice-Secretary of provincial Youth Union said: “In recent years, rural youths in the province have made changes in thought about economic development. They have known to select fields in line with the market demand and their ability for development. They have grasped sci-tech advancements and set up many effective economic models, including those of growing safe vegetables, breeding ornamental fish, snakes, crocodiles…”.

Possibly speaking, the local Youth Union’s support programs for rural youths to start their business has brought high efficiency. Many rural youths have bravely spent their brain and capital on economic development models, contributing to step by step promoting the rural development of Binh Duong.
