“Saving electricity - Becoming a habit”

Update: 25-03-2023 | 11:29:34

This is the message of the Earth Hour 2023 program. With the goal of saving 25,000 kWh of electricity during the 60-minute period of turning off the lights of this year's Earth Hour campaign, provincial Youth Union has implemented propaganda activities in a diverse and dynamic way.

Small action - big meaning

At the intersection of Dinh market in Thu Dau Mot city, when the red light turned on, means of transpotation stopped. There was a little girl shouting: “Mom! Turn off the engine quickly. If you stop at a red light, you have to turn off the engine". Because the girl's call was quite loud, not only the mother and those around her also "obeyed" to turn off their motorbike engines under her words. The reason the girl asked for her mother to turn off the engine was probably that in recent days, the images of young people volunteering to hold the message of "turn off engines in 25 seconds" have appeared on intersections, along with words reminding all people to turn off their engines to protect the environment. The establishment and deployment of youth volunteer squads to propagandize people driving vehicles and motorbikes to turn off their engines for 25 seconds or more during red light stops to reduce environmental pollution, save fuel... is one of the activities in response to this year's Earth Hour campaign.

Youth Union members call on people to turn off their motorbike engines at intersections

Thai Kien Thuan, Head of provincial Youth Union Movement Department, Permanent Vice-Chairman of provincial Youth Federation said that in order to actively contribute to saving energy, protecting the environment and combating climate change, provincial Youth Union Standing Committee has coordinated with Binh Duong Power Company to organize propaganda activities in response to the Earth Hour 2023 campaign. Accordingly, provincial Youth Union organized many diverse, creative and appropriate activities. Provincial Youth Union directed its branches to carry out many activities suitable to the actual conditions in the localities; implemented propaganda on saving water, electricity and other energy sources, turning off unnecessary electrical appliances at all meetings of youth sub-unions, lodging facilities, residential areas, social housing areas...

Provincial Youth Union also coordinated with relevant units to mobilize agencies, enterprises, production-business establishments and households to turn off unnecessary lights and electrical equipment between 20:30 and 21:30; organize the establishment of volunteer squads to clean up, collect garbage in the wrong places, dismantle illegal advertising boards in residential areas, lodging facilities, social housing areas, schools, civilized roads and alleys in localities and units.

Responding to “environmental protection” message

For the annual Earth Hour coming into the habits, actions and thoughts of people about the awareness of environmental protection, provincial Youth Union has implemented many meaningful activities, with focus on disseminating information of the meaning of the Earth Hour campaign in online forms, or information channels of the Youth Union - Associations; or by vivid visual methods such as hanging propaganda banners about the campaign on key routes of the province.

Provincial Youth Union has also established and deployed a squad, consisting of 20 young volunteers who have ridden bicycles to conduct propaganda parades in response to the "Earth Hour" campaign in 2023; integrated propaganda forms to raise people's awareness of protecting the environment, combating climate change, saving energy sources through propaganda items such as leaflets, electricity saving applications, online consultation, environmental protection cloth bags, recycled items...

In addition, provincial Youth Union has set up a video clip with the propaganda message in response to the "Earth Hour" campaign in 2023. With such key contents as the results of activities in response to the campaign of provincial Youth Unions at all levels; propaganda on saving energy and fuel sources; dissemination on environmental protection, reducing plastic waste, combating climate change... provincial Youth Union at all levels have promoted activities sharing the video clip through social networking sites, information pages of units to further approach a large number of Youth Union members in the province.

Especially, this year, provincial Youth Union and units have set up volunteer squads calling on people to put their fingerprints on the tree-shaped form board instead of their commitment to participate in environmental protection among numerous cadres, civil servants, Youth Union members, children and people in areas in the province’s administrative center, major commercial centers, schools, localities and units. They have also formed up a squad on Flashmob dancing to attract people in amusement and entertainment areas in Thu Dau Mot city, commercial centers, and schools.

Provincial Youth Union has also coordinated with Aeon Mall Binh Duong to organize a drawing contest to propagandize the Earth Hour 2023 with the theme of "Happy Earth". Participating in the contest, students will express their feelings and thoughts about the current state of the environment, its impacts on all daily activities as well as solutions to protect the environment; reflect and criticize acts that destroy natural landscapes and ecosystems, and threaten public health; show dreams, specific and necessary actions to prevent and propagandize the harmful effects of environmental pollution to have a green, clean and beautiful environment.

In response to the Earth Hour, Youth Union members in the province have also actively mobilized agencies, enterprises, production and business establishments and households to turn off lights and unnecessary electrical equipment from 20:30 to 21:30 on March 25, 2023 and take practical actions to protect the environment and combat climate change for 365 days a year.
