Reading is a good habit. School library is the place contributing to cultivating this habit, motivating reading and self-learning from students. Therefore, provincial educational and training sector has made efforts to invest and improve school libraries. In order for school libraries to continue to better promote their roles, educational and training sector has built standard school libraries to cater for training and learning activities in schools.
Reading is a need of students to help them to develop knowledge and understanding of the surrounding world. During break times, students of Le Quy Don secondary school usually go to school library to read their favorite books.
Student Tran Ngoc Han said, she liked to read, because books had many interesting things. She and her friends also find documents for reference to learn better. Principal Ho Van Lai said, the school library has helped a lot with teaching activities. Teachers often come to widen knowledge; students search for documents, information in learning.

Being aware of the importance of school library, provincial Department of Educational and Training has directed their subordinates to build up standard school libraries. Annually, the department funds books, equipment purchase of school libraries.
Since 2013, 100% school libraries of Phu Giao district have achieved standards. According to municipal Educational and Training Bureau’s Head Nguyen Thanh Tung, apart from building classrooms, function rooms in schools, they also paid attention to the construction of school libraries. They did not spread funding but finished a school library before starting new one. After several years, all municipal school libraries achieved standards.
Library of Binh Chuan primary school (Thuan An town) is one of the outstanding units of the province. The library was beautifully and logically decorated. The reading room has 50 seats, teacher reading room has enough seats for 30 persons. Book shelves are classified according to types and genres. Therefore, a lot of students come to the library during break times. Annually, the school adds averagely 200-300 books to library.
Thuan An town Educational and Training Bureau’s Head Huynh Thi My Ngan said, the town had 19/19 elementary schools’ libraries and 5/8 secondary schools’ libraries recognized as national standard library, including Binh Chuan primary school library as the outstanding school library. Every year, on the occasion of Teacher's Day, the Party’s foundation day, Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union’ anniversary… municipal school libraries organized storytelling contest, in addition to introducing new books, to attract students.
At the present, the implementation of innovative teaching methods requires students to raise awareness of self-learning, thus increasing the significance of school libraries. According to Library – Equipment Office’s Head Dang Van Be under provincial Department of Educational and Training, the department opens annually professional training courses for librarians and teachers. Many teachers have also developed self-study to apply information technology, overhead projectors to attract students.
According to regulations of the Ministry of Education, a standard library has a minimum area of 50m2, including the reading room for teachers, students and book repository. To previously built schools, each school saves 1-2 rooms for library. Newly built schools include standard school libraries. Due to Circular 30 and socialization, schools have been equipped with tables, chairs and book cabinets, shelves. Reference books for teachers, books for learning and entertainment of students, magazines, and newspapers are regularly added. In the province, all primary, secondary, and high schools have libraries. The province has 194 standard libraries, 50 advanced ones, and 5 excellent ones.
