Sentimental visit of Binh Duong delegation to the islands

While the delegation of Binh Duong province visited Truong Sa, cadres and soldiers staying in Cam Ranh city of Khanh Hoa province were waiting for the departure date. On hearing that the 957th Brigade of the Command Region 4 of the Navy had soldiers from Binh Duong, Mr. Nguyen Loc Ha, Standing Member of the provincial Party Committee, Deputy Chairman of the provincial People's Committee, Head of the delegation decided to immediately visit and encourage the soldiers.

The joy of meeting

According to the predetermined schedule from the Organizing Committee, after coming to offer incense at the memorial site of Gac Ma, it was almost noon. The time was also late, but the delegation still decided to visit the officers and soldiers of the 957th Brigade. After about 15 minutes of traveling from the accommodation, the car arrived at the gate of the 957th Brigade unit. It was midday, and the weather was hot, but it was not as impatient as the excitement and joy of the young soldiers waiting to meet their acquaintances in the countryside. As soon as we stepped inside the hall, we felt the cozy atmosphere like welcoming relatives from far away coming home to celebrate Tet.

Knowing that we were members of a delegation from Binh Duong province who had just come to prepare for a trip outside Truong Sa, young soldier Duong Quoc Vu smiled and shook hands tightly with each person. Vu's black face, which was sunburnt and windy because he was in the training term, was bright and simple, but exuded the resilience of a brave and heroic Eastern hometown boy. In the conversation, Vu said that his hometown is in Lai Hung commune of Bau Bang district. Having just graduated from Thu Dau Mot University, Vu volunteered to join the army in February 2022 and was assigned to Battalion 454 of the 957th Brigade under Naval Region 4 Command. Vu confided that when recruited for military service, he felt very honored and proud to have devoted his youth to the country. “The first day I joined the army, I still had a lot of surprise as I was new to the military environment, but with the help of the leader and teammates in the unit, I quickly got used to the conditions in the unit."

Also being the son of Bau Bang who has just joined the army, Le Van Duan, a young recruit from Long Nguyen commune, was equally happy to meet his countrymen. Finished university majoring in economics and got a job with a stable income at the Chengdu Appraisal Company; however, Duan volunteer to join the army in 2022. Duan said: " When my family saw me off in the car to return to the unit, my mother told me many things, but what I always remembered is "Trying to train so that the family is proud of you." Whenever I face a difficult time, I remember my mother's words and try to overcome it. When I joined the army, I found that everything was on schedule, very organized compared to at home. In the early days, just folding square pillows into sharp edges was not easy. That motivated me to work even harder. No matter how difficult it is, you have to try to complete the tasks, that's what a soldier should do."

In the conversation with Vu and Duan and many other soldiers from Binh Duong, we realized something worthy of respect and pride of young soldiers: despite living far away from home, young soldiers from the countryside always stand shoulder to shoulder and share joys and sorrows with mutual helping in training for good results and successfully assigned tasks and to be ready to take on the tasks on the mainland or in any remote islands after the new soldier training session ends.

The heart of Binh Duong

According to our research, the 957th Brigade currently has more than 100 children of Binh Duong who are recruits from the 454th Battalion and who have just joined the army in early 2022. Colonel Pham Quang Trung, Political Commissioner of the 957th Brigade, said that to become a soldier with the brand name "957 Brigade", the training stage of 3 months is not enough as it must be the whole time of active duty. President Ho Chi Minh's soldier not only had good physical strength and proficiency of using equipment and weapons but also had a strong will and a clear mind. The most difficult thing in the first month of many young soldiers is the peace of mind as most young people who have just entered the military environment with discipline as strength need to adjust not only in the field but also during rest and activities. During that process, the commanding and training staff always accompanies the soldiers to provide guidance and professional training and pay attention and observe every gesture of the young soldiers for promptly support and correction.

“Over the past 2 months, new soldiers from the provinces in general and new soldiers from Binh Duong province in particular have well promoted the tradition of their homeland and the tradition of the heroic Vietnamese People's Army as determined with the missions from the very beginning of the training. All newly recruits feel secure about their work, and determine with their tasks. Initial evaluation results this year have been better. Immediately after completing the training period, young soldiers will be sent to the units to do their duties; there are also soldiers who will be sent to the units on the Spratly islands to do the tasks,” Colonel Pham Quang Trung said.

At the meeting hall where the delegation and young soldiers from Binh Duong met, the young soldiers sat dignified in the rows of seats and in neat uniforms; their faces tanned by the wind of the field but still not fade the splendor. Young soldier Le Van Duan said emotionally: “This morning, we were informed by the head of the unit that a delegation from Binh Duong province would visit. On hearing this, everyone was happy and excited before the first ever visiting event after the prevention and control of the COVID-19 epidemic. Now that we can meet the delegates of the Binh Duong delegation who visit and encourage us, so we feel like we have met our families.”

On the occasion, Binh Duong province's delegation also presented gifts to officers and soldiers of Brigade 957 and more than 100 soldiers of Binh Duong hometown who are on duty. Responding to the sentiments, Colonel Pham Quang Trung said emotionally: "The visit and encouragement of the new soldiers of the Binh Duong delegation is a great source of encouragement, helping the new soldiers be more steady, braver and mentally determined to successfully complete the assigned tasks.”

At the end of the visit, at the time of parting, everyone was shaken, their hearts overflowing with emotions. Suddenly somewhere in the hall resounded the song “Nhu co bac Ho trong ngay vui dai thang" (Just like President Ho presence on a great day of victory) by an unknown soldier. Then, the people in the whole hall sang along with rhythmic applause when the members of the delegation got out to the cars to return to their accommodation and prepare for the long march to visit the army and people on the islands of the archipelago of the sacred Truong Sa islands of the fatherland.
