"Smart village" of Bach Dang commune boosts rural tourism development

 The project of building a model new rural commune combined with the construction of a "smart village" in Bach Dang commune (Tan Uyen town) has been performed with the goal of improving the people’s living standards and developing Bach Dang commune into a green island. In the future, this will be a place worth living, friendly with the natural environment, as well as a place to develop smart agriculture, eco-tourism, become a green symbol for Binh Duong.

Bach Dang commune is about 25km away from Thu Dau Mot city. Crossing Bach Dang Bridge across the Dong Nai River, we stepped out of a bustling industrial society to return to a peaceful and quiet village of Bach Dang commune.

Vo Thi Bao Xuyen, Chairwoman of Bach Dang Commune People's Committee, said that currently the criteria for building a "Smart Village" in Bach Dang commune focus on the specialty pomelos, a long-standing brand of Bach Dang commune, combine with smart solutions to improve agriculture, develop agriculture-based tourism, namely farm tourism.

Besides, the commune implemented a group of solutions to improve infrastructure for agriculture and tourism, build public utilities for tourism, and promote tourism products and services for the comprehensive development of Bach Dang Island.

The town's People's Committee has allocated funds to install security cameras at 30 points with 39 camera eyes and 35 public Wi-Fi points. The commune is also surveying a lighting system using high-voltage bulbs to replace it with energy-saving LED bulbs, which is expected to be implemented on three roads by the end of 2022. 34/34 inter-village roads are upgraded to ensure better circulation…

Smart village is associated with a place where gathers many applications of the 4.0 technology revolution; Bach Dang commune is aiming to complete the smart village construction by 2025.

“Bach Dang commune has recently made a facelift. In the implementation process, with the support of the province, the town, local administration and people make concerted efforts to build a smart village so that people can enjoy the results of the project; turning this peaceful land into a worth-living and growing place," added Vo Thi Bao Xuyen.

Tourism development

Located on an island surrounded by Dong Nai River, Bach Dang commune is one of few communes of Binh Duong that is less affected by industry, has no factories, no chimneys and no industrial wastewater.

Bach Dang commune is blessed with natural beauty and becomes one of the localities with great potential for tourism development. Anyone who has ever set foot on Bach Dang Island cannot forget the peaceful and quiet beauty of the new countryside with green and spreading pomelo gardens.

Duong Van Minh and his pomelo garden in Dieu Hoa hamlet, one of local old farmers with great experience in growing pomelo tree. Minh said that Bach Dang pomelo has long been famous for being the most abundant, the most delicious, the most precious and the most famous. Coming to pomelo gardens in Bach Dang commune, visitors may enjoy products made from pomelo, such as pomelo salad, pomelo tea, pomelo wine etc. or combine with eating and camping at the garden.

The product diversification helps reach a wide range of customers, promote and build good reputation for Bach Dang pomelo. In recent years, in order to promote this specialty fruit, Tan Uyen Town has hosted the festival "Bach Dang pomelo flavour". The festival has become a tourism feature of Tan Uyen Town as well as of Binh Duong province.

Nguyen Tan Phat, Head of Tan Uyen Town Culture and Information Office, said the office has cooperated with local administration to exploit the potential of Bach Dang Island to develop eco-tourism combined with cultural tourism to bring relaxation and comfort to everyone coming here. In the coming time, the department will continue to introduce and promote potential and tourist destinations of Bach Dang commune to attract more tourists to this island.
