Southern Binh Duong water environment improvement project’s 2nd phase contributes to protect people’s living

The signing ceremony on minutes of discussion of Southern Binh Duong water environment improvement project-phase 2 between the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the provincial People’s Committee has created a very important significance for environmental protection and living improvement of local residents.

Necessity of the project

With rapid development of the Southern Binh Duong, industrialization and modernization and population, volume of waste water has increased along. In addition, the existent water drainage system at Thu Dau Mot and Thuan An towns is complex network including canals, sewers and concrete pipes. Waste water and rain water have been discharged into canals and streams directly.

Therefore, water improvement measures for Sai Gon River area in Thu Dau Mot and Thuan An towns are very essential for not only Binh Duong but HCMC. In addition, the 2nd phase of Southern Binh Duong water environment improvement project is suitable to orientations on water drainage at urban centers and industrial parks till 2015 and vision 2020.

The project becomes true quickly

JICA spent a week to check progress of the project’s 1st phase. With over VND1,584bil from ODA loan, a waste water treatment plant with a capacity of 17,650 cubic meters of waste water/day and night is underway across 6 wards of Thu Dau Mot town. The 1st phase will be put into operation by 2013 to collect garbage at 50,000 households in the town. Satoko Tanaka, vice director at JICA highly valued progress of the 1st phase.

Upholding results of the 1st phase, the 2nd phase will become true quickly. The 2nd phase will improve living environment for residents in Thuan An town. The phase is in need of VND4tril from ODA loan. Rep of JICA, said Binh Duong has excelled the project and the 2nd phase will contribute to protect environment and improve living condition of residents.
