Update: 10-03-2011 | 00:00:00

Realizing the role of water, the United Nations has selected the annual March 22 as World Water Day. The theme of this year’s World Water Day is Water and Urbanization…

 Water resources polluted…

Clean water for the urban region is now a thorny problem for many countries in the world, including Vietnam.

In Vietnam, there is now 60% of the urban region with concentrated water supply system. According to the statistics of the Vietnam Association for Natural and Environment Protection, daily waste water accounts for around 80% of total waste water in cities. This is one of the main reasons leading to the pollution of surface and underground water resources.

Binh Duong has appreciated as one of the localities with an abundant fresh water resource, which is seen as its advantage for investment attraction. For surface water, Binh Duong is surrounded by three main rivers, namely Sai Gon, Dong Nai and Be. These rivers have high value in terms of water supply, transport, agriculture, irrigation, tourism…

Regarding underground water, Binh Duong now has four underground water layers with 20m-100m depth and easy exploitation condition. According to the province’s report of the actual state and exploitation plan of underground water resource in 2006, the whole province had the total reserves of underground water of around 2.189mln cu.m per day and night

However, Binh Duong’s rapid urbanization plus infrastructure facilities on water supply and drainage that have not yet met the growing demand for water have caused the pollution of water resources…

 Getting access to clean water

In addition to the propaganda and mobilization work, Binh Duong has made more efforts in protecting environment and water sources to help the local people get access to clean water.

Source from Binh Duong Water Supply-Drainage and Environment One-Member Co.Ltd. said that Binh Duong has over time boosted investment of the water supply systems for cities and industrial parks. Currently, the ratio of supplying clean water for cities is 90% while the ratio for industrial parks is 95%. 97% of industrial parks also have the waste water treatment and discharge systems.

Such these apart, Binh Duong has developed a lot of daily waste water treatment and drainage projects in cities such as the South Binh Duong water environment improvement project; the project of dredging and upgrading main canals and ditches discharging water into the Saigon river; the project of dredging and upgrading Tan Phuoc Khanh market’s stream…
