The movement of “good farmers in production and business”, fostering solidarity to help each other prosper and reduce poverty sustainably, has been actively promoted by provincial Farmers' Associations at all levels. This movement has created widespread impact, encouraging dynamism and creativity among farmer members, contributing to the local socio-economic development.

Effective models

In recent years, the movement of good farmers in production and business has been a priority of provincial Farmers' Association Standing Board, fostering dynamism and creativity in labor and production among members. This effort has led to the formation of concentrated production areas with appropriate crop and livestock structures, creating more jobs and increasing income for the local residents.

Vu Manh Cuong, Head of the Farmers' Association branch in Lac An commune’s hamlet 4 in North Tan Uyen district, was an exemplary official in 2023. With his comprehensive agricultural economic model combining fruit tree cultivation and animal husbandry, he earns nearly VND 1.5 billion annually. In addition to developing his family’s economy, Mr. Cuong has supported other farmers with seedlings, provides them with technical guidance on caring for bananas, created jobs and introduced traders to the local farmers for buying agricultural products.

Bui Thien Truc, from Minh Hoa commune’s Hoa Cuong hamlet in Dau Tieng district, is another exemplary farmer overcoming difficulties to excel in production-business. In 2012, Mr. Truc began cultivating fruit trees on 3 hectares. With his diligence and support from the local Farmers' Association, he applied proper production techniques. As a result, his pomelo model achieved high productivity and economic efficiency. His farm now spans 15 hectares, specializing in pomelos and durians, with the annual profit of VND 4.6 billion after expenses.

According to Do Ngoc Huy, Chairman of provincial Farmers' Association, with the attention from the Farmers' Association Central Committee, provincial Party Committee, People’s Committee, several policies encouraging and supporting agricultural production investment have been introduced. These policies have created favorable conditions for the movement of good farmers in production and business to grow in terms of quantity, scale, quality and economic efficiency. Today, many farming households have expanded their production, increased capital investment and created jobs for hundreds of the local workers. Compared to the period before 2021, the number of households earning over VND 300 million annually has tripled and the number of households earning over VND 1 billion has quadrupled. Many farmers have overcome difficulties and become nationally recognized excellent production households.

The movement of “good farmers in production and business” has significantly contributed to the province's socio-economic development. It has helped farmers escape poverty and improved their living standards. The movement has continued receiving enthusiastic participation from its members.

Further enhancing the movement's quality

To further improve the effectiveness of the “good farmers in production and business” movement, Mr. Huy said that provincial Farmers' Association will further innovate and enhance the quality and effectiveness of the movement. The focus will be on creating branded agricultural products, increasing their value and improving market competitiveness. Provincial Farmers' Association is promoting the development and establishment of linkages for the consumption and promotion of agricultural products associated with product branding; developing towards a collective economy model, forming up product chains that meet the demands of international economic integration.

Accordingly, provincial Farmers' Association will further innovate its operational contents and methods, strengthening and building a stronger Farmers' Association organization linked with the movement of good farmers in production and business. In addition, they will promote the application of e-commerce in agriculture, bringing branded and reputable agricultural products to e-commerce platforms to expand consumption markets for farmers' products. Provincial Farmers' Association will also coordinate with its branches to implement digital transformation in the agricultural sector, in line with the resolution of provincial Party Committee and guide farmers in developing suitable production and business models while providing support in capital, materials and technology transfer.

Moreover, provincial Farmers’Association will emphasize vocational training to continuously improve farmers’ production skills, economic management and market knowledge. This will enable farmers to effectively utilize investment policies for agriculture, rural development and technological advancements, thereby increasing product value and competitiveness for sustainable agricultural growth. Provincial Farmers’Association will further replicate successful production and business models and support poor households in escaping poverty sustainably, striving to become good farmer households in production and business.

From 2021 to 2023, 29,568 farmer households annually registered for the title of “good farmers in production and business” at all levels. Among them, 118 households were recognized at national level, 1,023 at provincial level and 4,136 at district level. Dau Tieng, Phu Giao, and North Tan Uyen districts had the highest numbers of households registering for the title of “good farmers in production and business” at all levels.
