Storm and floods cause VND34 billion in losses

Update: 10-10-2012 | 00:00:00

The recent storm and floods in the central region have destroyed more than 550 houses, 260 hectares of rice and 2,300 hectares of subsidiary crops, resulting in total damages of around VND34 billion.

The Central and Central Highlands regional storm and flood prevention and control centre said Binh Dinh suffered from serious damage estimated at VND13.56 billion.

As of October 9, two people had been reported dead or missing, and two others had been injured due to the storm and its aftermath.

The most serious problem now are the landslides on roads in Quang Nam, Quang Ngai and Central Highland provinces, which cut off many areas that still remain isolated.

Local authorities and people are stepping up efforts to overcome the consequences of the storm and stabilize their lives.

*** The Prime Minister has authorized the Ministry of Finance to provide 4,000 tonnes of rice for Thanh Hoa and Nghe An provinces, which were seriously affected by the recent floods. Thanh Hoa will be allocated 3,000 tonnes and Nghe An will receive 1,000 tonnes.
