Economic recovery, but many challenges remaining

The report from provincial Party Committee at the conference showed that in the context of global and domestic economic challenges in the first six months of 2024, the province has achieved the highest possible results in socio-economic development tasks thanks to the efforts and unity of the entire political system, the people and the business community.

Pham Trong Nhan, Director of provincial Department of Planning and Investment reported that in the first half of the year, the province's GRDP growth rate was expected to reach 6.2% of the highest growth since 2020. The province’s import-export activities continued maintaining a good growth rate, with export turnover reaching US$16.7 billion, up 13.1% over the same period. The province’s total trade surplus value reached US$ 5.2 billion. The consumption index of production and consumer industries showed positive signs as businesses began to grasp transition trends and meet consumption standards in many markets.

One of the highlights in the province's economic picture in the first half of 2024 is that State budget revenue reached 50% of provincial People's Council's estimate and 55% of the Prime Minister's estimate, up 11% over the same period. Additionally, domestic business registration capital reached more than VND 27.25 trillion (up 12.1% over the same period). The province’s total social development investment capital was estimated at more than  VND 68.94trillion, up 7.5% over the same period. The province’s total retail sales revenue of goods and services was estimated at more than VND 166.18 trillion, up 13% over the same period...

Although the province's economy has continued recovering and has had many bright spots, there are still many difficulties and challenges. Nguyen Thanh Toan, Director of provincial Department of Industry and Trade stated that the province’s industrial production activities in the first half of the year had many positive changes, with the province's main export industries gradually recovering and the export market showing positive signs. However, some sectors, especially auxiliary industries, have still faced difficulties, with raw material and transportation costs remaining high..., affecting the province's industrial production index. The industrial production index in the first half of 2024 was estimated at increasing by 5.63% over the same period.

In addition, attracting foreign investment has still faced many difficulties. Some key transportation projects are affected by issues in site clearance, leading to slow implementation and disbursement of public investment capital compared to the plan. Although showing signs of recovery, the production and business situation of domestic enterprises, the real estate market and the stock market have still faced many difficulties and challenges.

Explaining the economic growth rate of the province in the first half of the year, Vo Van Minh, Vice Secretary of provincial Party Committee, Chairman of provincial People's Committee stated that in the province's economic structure, industry and construction account for 67%, while industrial production index in the first six months only increased by 5.63%. Additionally, the province's key sectors (except for the wood industry) recovered, but went slowly. These factors directly affected the province's growth rate.
