Students in hardship empowered to go to school

Along with many other meaningful humanitarian activities, the program of Tiep suc den truong (the empowerment of schooling) is being implemented effectively by the Red Cross at all levels in the province. In the past few days of the new school year, the Red Cross at all levels continued to bring meaningful gifts and scholarships to disadvantaged students so that they could have conditions and motivation to strive to study better.

To share the love

In order to contribute to taking care of the ‘future owners’ of the country, the Red Cross of Tan Binh ward in Di An city had soon built a campaign to give gifts to poor-but-studious students in the ward during the new school year. Le Trung Hieu, Chairman of the Red Cross of Tan Binh Ward, said that in response to the ‘day of the whole nation sending children to school’, the Red Cross of the ward has just organized the program of Tiep suc den truong to give study promotion gifts to 50 poor, studious students and students in extremely difficult circumstances from social mobilization sources. Accordingly, each child was given a gift of VND 200,000 in cash and a gift of about VND 550,000 with many school supplies such as notebooks, backpacks, writing boards, glasses of water etc. to help them have more standard conditions and be fully equipped for the new school year.

As one of the philanthropic individuals who actively donate resources to motivate disadvantaged students, Mai Thi Thuy, President of the Tan Binh Ward Volunteers Club, said that she herself really appreciated the examples of overcoming difficulties and being studious, so on every occasion of the opening ceremony, she always gives a little encouragement to the students to overcome such difficulties. Thuy said: “I am very happy to join hands and contribute to the Red Cross in this year's school empowerment program. The gifts given today can be the beginning to open a new future for students, giving them more confidence and strength to steadfastly continue on the difficult road ahead, to rise and to battle to win the prizes.”

Going to school, or simply getting a new notebook or a new shirt on the first day of school is normal for many children, but sometimes it is far beyond the reach of some children born into an orphan situation or harsh circumstances. Therefore, with the attention of the CPV, the State, the unions, and teachers, the children urgently need the compassionate embrace of the community to share and strengthen. Ngo Thi Xuyen, Chairwoman of the Red Cross of Dau Tieng district, said that the program continues to be implemented by the district Red Cross as well as communes and townships in the district with meaningful work to motivate poor students to overcome difficulties, and to gain more faith and energy on the learning path this year.

Accordingly, the district Red Cross awarded scholarships to 63 disadvantaged students; each was worth VND 1 million. It also mobilized and donated health insurance to 40 students at Long Hoa and Dinh An schools with a total value of more than VND 28 million. The association also coordinated to give gifts to 50 children and donated milk to 200 children studying in kindergartens. The total value of the program that that the association has implemented was VND 175 million. In addition, the VND-0 market sessions or gift distribution in localities of the Red Cross of communes and towns have also been coordinated with benevolent units, organizations and individuals to donate many gifts to disadvantaged students.

To empower the future generations

Nguyen Thi Le Trinh, Chairwoman of the provincial Red Cross, said that the provincial Red Cross has mobilized resources and will award more than 1,000 scholarships to poor, hardship-inflicting students, whose parents died because of COVID-19 to overcome difficulties this school year. Accordingly, each scholarship they receive is VND 12 million (which is divided to VND 1 million a month). Before awarding scholarships, the provincial Red Cross coordinated with the local Red Cross societies to survey the children's circumstances to ensure that the support was given to the right ones.

With the meaningful support, disadvantaged children will have more conditions to study and make efforts to have a better future. Nguyen Vo Phuc Hau, a 12th grader at Tan Phuoc Khanh High School in Tan Uyen city, talked about that his unemployed parents, which left the family into great hardship. His first time of receiving such a high-value scholarship was with joy as they were on the stage receiving the gifts.

"This school year, I was awarded a high-value scholarship by the provincial Red Cross, which is the most meaningful gift for me; my parents will at ease before some of the difficulties and have more conditions to take care of me going to school. I will try to study better, to go to university for a better future and help my parents,” Phuc said.

Over the years, the Red Cross in the province has mobilized resources in the society to give thousands of scholarships, gifts, bicycles, etc. to poor students who are studious. The gifts full of love and gratitude this year are still being mobilized and given to students by the Red Cross at all levels. The good news is that the value of each scholarship this year has increased a lot compared to before.

Departments, mass organizations and localities in the province have been actively propagandizing and mobilizing benevolent units and individuals and the whole society to join hands to support students in difficult circumstances and at risk of giving up. Students in the province can continue to go to school through the Tiep suc den truong program. In particular, the scholarships and gifts that the Red Cross levels send to the children before the new school year will add up their confidence and energy, helping children in difficult circumstances feel secure and have good conditions to study better, and to strive to a brighter future.

In the academic year of 2023-2024, the provincial Red Cross awards scholarships to 1,021 disadvantaged students in the whole province with a total value of VND 12 billion and 182 million. Accordingly, each child is given VND 12 million (VND 1 million a month) in average. This year, the value of scholarships that the provincial Red Cross donates children is considered the highest ever.
