Pig and poultry breeding model using inexpensive materials (sawdust, rice husk, wood chips) to create microbial populations processing pet waste is called biological padding breeding. Due to some advantages of cost curtailing, environmental pollution solving, high profitability, this model has attracted attention from many farmers and has been applied broadly in Phu Giao district.
According to many farmers applying this model, common advantages of biological padding breeding are simplicity, inexpensiveness, and high efficiency. The basic principle of the model is to use biological waste mixed with padded floor to decompose absolutely animal waste’s odor.
Biological padding’s temperature is maintained from 35 - 60°C; thus, bacteria do not have favorable conditions for proliferation, reducing digestive and respiratory diseases at pigs. Applying this model, pigs do not have to bath, pigsty do not need to wash, saving treatment costs, electricity, water, and efforts.
Farmer Nguyen Hoang Long has succeeded in applying pig breeding based on biological pads.
Farmer Nguyen Hoang Long living in Trang San hamlet, Vinh Hoa commune, Phu Giao district has succeeded in implementing this model. According to him, his family began pig rising in 1981. In 1994, he studied pig-breeding course at Binh Duong Agriculture and Forestry junior high school. Thanks to practical experiences, he implemented successfully the model of pig breeding based on biological padding.
Farmer Nguyen Hoang Long said: “Since 2012, I have applied pig breeding based on biological pads. This model has helped in lessening costs and efforts, because pigs do not need to bath daily. Besides, food containing biological enzyme is good for digestion, especially for suckling pigs to 20-kg pigs. In addition, I can sell pig waste to local farmers as fertilizer for rubber trees”. Currently, he has about 100 sows and 250 pigs, and can earn over VND700 million/year.
Learning from experiences, this new model has high efficiency compared with the traditional breeding. Namely, the new model decreases pig odor, reduces 80-90% pig diarrhea, especially piglets. Moreover, pigs are usually healthy, ruddy, can digest well, eat more, thus quality of meat is higher.
In addition, due to fermented food, farmers can reduce food expenses, and feeding time by 10-15 days compared to the traditional breeding. Sows fed with fermented food can lactate well; piglets are also ruddy. After 27 days of breast-feeding, sows can be bred, conception rate is over 95%. Besides, fermented food reduces costs by 10%.
Phu Giao District Farmers’ Association’s Vice Chairman Trinh Duc Dung said, the Association has encouraged farmers to enhance advanced high-tech models through policies of granting loans, opening training courses of advanced production methods.
According to Mr. Dung, up to now, many farmers have applied successfully pig breeding based on biological pads. Therefore, this model has ben promoted so that people can learn and replicate in order to facilitate environmentally friendly breeding in Phu Giao district.
