Supermarket chain brings taste of home to Vietnamese in Canada

Many of the nearly 35,000-strong Vietnamese community in Vancouver, Canada, have maintained traditional practices of their homeland, using products from Vietnam and other Asian countries.

Founded in 2008, the 88 Supermarket chain has become a popular address for the Vietnamese community in Vancouver with a wide range of traditional Vietnamese ingredients and products.

Tran Tien, the branch manager of the the supermarket chain, said the suppermarket chain is well-known among Vietnamese in Vancouver, with approximately 60-70% of them shopping there.

He said the chain offers essential items for daily use, reflecting the community’s preference for familiar Vietnamese products.

Over the past decade, the brand has gained credibility and support from the Vietnamese community. Over the recent years, the supermarket chain has been expanded with two additional stores in Vancouver and more expected to be operational in other cities.

Such supermarkets provide a variety of items, including fresh meat and seafood, and others from Vietnam like dried, frozen, and canned foods, as well as vegetables and fruits./.
