Sustainable urban development visualized in planning

The general planning of Thu Dau Mot city until 2045 is being implemented and adjusted in accordance with the provincial Planning of Binh Duong for 2021-2030, with a vision until 2050 (referred to as the provincial Planning). It not only aims to arrange urban space but also serves as a key to solving issues related to transportation, population, environment, and economy. From there, it contributes significantly to the city's development towards being smart, green, and sustainable.

Well worthy of a core urban

Mr. Tran Sy Nam, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Thu Dau Mot City, said that the provincial planning announcement has special significance for the development of Binh Duong province in general and Thu Dau Mot City in particular. This is a premise, an opportunity for the city to break through, change the urban landscape which is a condition for the city to implement the planning on its territory. As the core of the innovative and creative region, the province and city will strive together with the province to build and develop Thu Dau Mot into a smart city, a livable city.

The goal set in the process of adjusting the overall master plan of Thu Dau Mot City by 2045 is to create a green urban space towards the development of urban areas with good living quality and attractive working environment; preserve and protect the ecological environment and cultural and historical identity. The overall adjustment of the city's master plan is the foundation for the synchronized, harmonious, and sustainable development of Thu Dau Mot urban area in the coming years. The city will gradually transition from an urban-industrial structure model to an urban-service and high-tech industrial structure model, aiming for innovative and sustainable urban development.

Thu Dau Mot will develop into one of the key growth poles of the Southeast region and the key economic region in the South, playing an important role in the urban area of Ho Chi Minh City; leveraging its strengths in connecting the region and international markets in services, trade, logistics, high-tech industry, and innovation. The city promotes, encourages, and supports organizations and individuals to participate in implementing and using cashless payment applications at convenience stores, shopping centers, supermarkets, markets... to make breakthroughs in services, urban areas, e-commerce, and financial investment towards smart urbanity. In which, the new city of Binh Duong continues to play the role of a nucleus. The city also promotes the implementation of commercial and service projects approved by the provincial People's Committee on the adjustment plan, developing the network of markets, supermarkets, and provincial commercial centers in Binh Duong by 2020.

Up to now, the People's Committee of the city has approved the mid-term report on the general planning of Thu Dau Mot City until 2045 and is preparing for the mid-term report on the general planning of Thu Dau Mot City until 2045. The provincial People's Committee approves the dossier for adjusting the 1/2,000 scale zoning plan of Phu Cuong ward at the location of the Memorial Area of Deputy Nguyen Sinh Sac, adjusting the general planning of the area of the former City Party Committee - People's Committee headquarters, and adjusting the 1/2,000 scale zoning plan of Phu Tho ward at the location of the implementation of resettlement area 2. The city People's Committee has also reported to the provincial People's Committee the plan for land use planning for administrative agencies, specialized organizations, and public career units at the provincial level; review and propose the provincial People's Committee to adjust the general planning at 12 locations, zoning planning at 12 locations; propose updating and supplementing 20 areas into the urban development program, housing in Binh Duong province in 2021-2030.

Priority to public space

The overall adjustment project for the general planning of Thu Dau Mot City until 2045 has a central focus on creating green spaces along the rivers that pass through the area, generating overall momentum in the development scenario. Green areas and public spaces must be prioritized for investment to improve the living environment. At the same time, the application of digital technology in urban management helps the city develop more sustainably.

Thu Dau Mot ciyt is mobilizing resources to continue investing in urban construction and development towards green, smart, and climate change-responsive urban growth; improving the quality of criteria for type I urban areas; developing infrastructure and renovating existing urban areas in conjunction with the development of new urban areas. The city has been vigorously implementing the management and conversion of the functions of public offices in the area, with the aim of generating resources from public land and investing them in the city's development. Currently, 100% of the city's alleys have been concretized, installed with lighting, and about 846 out of 1,891 routes have been invested in drainage systems.

To green the urban area and aim to build a "Green and Friendly City", the People's Committee of the city has implemented the investment in 120/120 parks, flower gardens, small islands, flower gardens, and lawns in the city, achieving 100% of the plan. The implementation of the campaign to green the urban area and aim to build a "Green and Friendly City" in 2024-2030 and the following years in Thu Dau Mot City has achieved important results. After only 3 months of implementation, the number of trees planted reached 122.04% of the annual target for 2024. The city is very concerned about investing in the urban drainage system, however, the problem of waterlogging still occurs and affects people's lives. The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development in Thu Dau Mot City, in coordination with the Department of Construction, is conducting a survey to review the list and prioritize the investment in tide gates at canals and ditches. They are selecting key locations and priority areas for construction in order to contribute to solving the current flooding situation.
