Binh Duong provincial Industrial
Parks’ Trade Union in cooperation with Vietnam-Singapore IP’s trade union held a
2012 get-together for occupational accident-hit workers. More than 80 unlucky
laborers met and shared their difficulties in life.
Employers and employees
should raise awareness on occupational accident control.Helping unlucky workers ease pains
Loss of part of body makes
laborers who are main bread-winners of their families lose trust in life.
Therefore, the get-together helped them ease sorrow and rise up to become
useful people for the society and family. Do Van Thanh in Di An town, said “I
annually look forward to join in the get-together. This is a rare chance for me
to meet people in the same situation”.
6 years ago, Thanh was a good
technician of a concrete production company. Then, he got an electric shock
while he was working. He woke up after 49 days of hospitalization. As a result,
his arms were cut to elbows and his spacious house was sold to pay living
expenses for his wife and children.
At present, his family has faced
many obstacles in life but he said that he is very lucky because many
occupational accident-hit workers pass away.
Meeting with people in the same
situation helps Nguyen Thanh Dien ease his pain. Dien, a bachelor youth lost
his legs while he was working at a paper production plant one year ago. Dien
shared “I have made efforts to be a mainstay for my mother”. Witnessing Dien’s
faith, the company has offered a proper job for him. At present, Dien has
enjoyed an income of nearly VND2.2mil per month plus about VND2mil of social
insurance subsidy.
In the warm ambience, Truong Thi
Bich Hanh, chairwoman of Binh Duong provincial Industrial Parks’ Trade Union
shared that the get-together is to take care for unlucky laborers’ material and
spiritual life. I hope that occupational accident-hit workers will make efforts
to overcome difficulties. And I hope that the get-together in next year will
only have old people without new faces.
For better tomorrow
At the get-togethers for unlucky
laborers, gifts from the assistance fund set up by Binh Duong provincial
Industrial Parks’ Trade Union were given to occupational accident-hit laborers.
Founded in 2004, the fund is to help occupational accident-hit workers and poor
laborers. Until now, the fund has mobilized VND500mil to help unlucky
workers.
Hanh added that laborers working
at industrial parks are mostly alien people and bread-winners. Therefore, if
they have to unluckily suffer occupational accidents, diseases, they and their
relatives will face many difficulties. And, a timely assistance will help them
rise up in life.
Joy in the get-together seems to
be a driving force for unlucky laborers. And it is also a warning for employers
and employees to control occupational accidents.
