Taking advantage of all contributions to help the poor rise up…, says Tran Thi Lien, Chairwoman of provincial Red Cross Society

Tran Thi Lien, Chairwoman of provincial Red Cross Society said that with the motto of “One for all”, provincial Red Cross Societies at all levels have become a bridge connecting well-off people and poor ones via many practical programs. For greater concern, Binh Duong Daily had an interview with her.

-Could you tell us about the formation and development of provincial Red Cross Society?

Provincial Red Cross Society was established in July 1976. After 40 years of formation, the society has constantly grew up and reaped considerable results. Especially, it has created improvement in both operational content and form in recent years, absorbing involvement of people from all strata. This has made it work more efficiently.

Also thanks to the attention and help of the local authorities at all levels plus the efforts by officials, members and volunteers, provincial Red Cross Societies at all levels surmounted difficulties and reached robust development over the past time.

-How did provincial Red Cross Societies at all levels offer help to disadvantaged people?

Over the past time, provincial Red Cross Societies at all levels coordinated with some units, namely Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine, 115 People’s Hospital, HCM city Eye Hospital, provincial General Hospital, provincial Volunteers’ Club and district, town and town-level general hospitals to provide free medical check-up, medicine and gifts for 2.5 million people with a total expense of more than VND62billion.

They also actively mobilized people from all strata to give blood. As a result, they collected 89,753 units of blood worth more than VND17.95billion during the past 20 years, ensuring 100% of provincial General Hospital’s demand for emergency and treatment and making contributions to the HCM city-based Ray hospital’s Blood Transfusion and Hematology Center.

In addition, they worked with religious organizations, donors and volunteers’ clubs to organize relief trips to localities hit by natural disasters with 81,943 gifts, 96.9 tons of rice, 28 tons of new clothing, blankets, mosquito-nets…worth more than VND69billion given.

The campaign of “Each organization, individual should stick to a humanitarian address”, the program of “Tet for the poor, the disabled and Agent Orange victims”…also received enthusiastic response from donors, religious organizations, volunteers’ clubs, mass organizations, helping the poor rise up and integrate into the community.

-The above activities require corresponding development from the society. Could you tell us more about this?

The province now has a total of 344 Red Cross organizations with 152,578 members. Noticeably, 100 of schools at all levels of the province have set up Red Cross organizations with 30,132 members and increasing operational efficiency. The whole province is also home to 437 Red Cross teams for teenagers with 19,417 members.

To achieve the above-mentioned results, along with the efforts by officials, members and volunteers, provincial Red Cross Societies at all levels always received the attention and support of the local authorities at all levels, mass organizations, individuals and enterprises. They also seriously responded emulation movements launched by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society. Besides, many role-models appeared through emulation movements of the society, contributing to embellishing the compassionate tradition of Vietnamese people.
