Taking advantage of cooperation, support from diplomatic agencies to call for investment

Provincial Party Committee, People’s Council and Fatherland Front Committee yesterday evening held a get-together for consular delegations and foreign agencies. Attending the event were Tran Van Nam, member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of provincial Party Committee, Head of provincial National Assembly delegation; Tran Thanh Liem, Vice-Secretary of provincial Party Committee, Chairman of provincial People’s Committee; leaders of the central diplomatic agencies, representatives of general consulates and foreign business associations in HCM city; leaders of sectors, departments, localities together with representatives of domestic and foreign companies in the province.  

At the get-together, on behalf of provincial leaders, Mr.Liem informed delegates of the local socio-economic development in 2017; development orientations and policies in boosting foreign affairs and investment promotion activities, thereby taking advantage of cooperation, support from diplomatic agencies to call for FDI projects.

In 2017, the province’s Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) surged 98.15% with the average GRDP per capita reaching VND120million. The province’s economic structure continued shifting towards the gradual growth of services and industry with respective proportions: 63.99% in industry, 23.68% in services, 3.74% in agriculture. The province’s export turnover reached US$28.5billion, up 17.6% compared to 2016. The province’s trade surplus was estimated at more than US$4.7billion. Noticeably, the province absorbed nearly VND2.6billion in FDI capital from 185 new projects and 109 extra-ones…The province has so far lured 3,034 FDI projects capitalized at US$28.33billion from 64 countries and territories around the world. The province now ranks second nationwide in FDI attraction only after HCM city.

Along with economic development, the province continued promoting socio-cultural fields. Particularly, the province well realized policies on social welfare, contributing to raising locals’ spiritual and material lives; maintained policial security, social safety and order; built up a synchronous socio-economic infrastructure system, step by step meeting the local demand for socio-economic development.

Possibly affirming, 2017 was a successful year of the province in foreign affairs. The province concentrated on foreign affairs and investment cooperation activities. The province handed over investment certificates to 21 foreign companies with a total investment capital of US$1.3billion; organized 4 dialogues with more than 340 foreign investors, aiming to opportunely remove their queries for better development.

The province also actively coordinated with Eindhoven city, the Consulate General of Holland, the Intelligent Community Forum and foreign partners to implement the Project on Binh Duong smart city. This was also a breakthrough strategic program on provincial socio-economic development to 2021, vision to 2030.

For better development, in 2018 and in the following years, according to Mr.Liem, the province will further improve the local investment climate, apply more flexible policies in calling for investment with priority given for projects in trade-services, hi-tech and auxiliary industries…; especially focus on human resource development and solutions to develop it into a smart city.

Provincial leaders wanted that foreign general consulates, organizations and enterprises will continue accompanying Binh Duong in relations with countries in the world for the prosperity of the province in particular and Vietnam in general.

Leow Siu Lin, representative of the Consulate General delegation in HCM city  said that she was very honorable when attending the event. She also congratulated the province on socio-economic achievements, especially in FDI attraction. The change of the province was seen as a demonstration of the local sound administration policies. Especially, the province is aiming at a smart and worth-living city…

The get-together aimed to pay tribute to international friends for their support and fine sentiment to the province over the past time while strengthening friendship and cooperation relations with foreign general consulates, organizations and enterprises, serving the local socio-economic development in 2018 and in the next years.
