Taking care of ethnic minority people

Phu Cuong ward in TDM city has paid attention to taking care of the local ethnic minority people’s spiritual and material lives, helping them enjoy preferential policies from the Party and State. All have created favorable conditions for them to reach comprehensive development in terms of socio-economic aspects, contributing to building up a more and more prosperous locality.

Attaching special importance to human resource development

Phu Cuong ward has always paid attention to ethnic minority pupils and students. Particularly, the ward has supported learning costs for the offspring of poor, near-poor ethnic minority people under provincial People’s Committee’s Decision No.56. The ward has also promoted student loan programs, creating advantageous conditions for ethnic minority students to study and improve their ability.

The whole ward had a total of 17 ethnic minority students attending province-based junior colleges, colleges and universities in the 2014-2015 academic year. Most of them tried to surmount difficulties in order to rise up in learning and got stable jobs after graduation.

In addition, the ward has attached special importance to training ethnic minority cadres. The whole ward now had a total of 54 ethnic minority cadres, comprising of 2 Hoa ethnic people. The ward has also helped a Hoa ethnic minority cadre attend a training course on law at university level.

Joining hands to build up cultural lifestyle

The ward has promoted the campaign of “All people consolidate to build up cultural lifestyle” among the local ethnic minority people. They have also been very enthusiastic in building and protecting cultural, historical works and recreational areas. Particularly, they have actively responded to movements on making rural roads and urban rejuvenation; taken part in hanging national flags as stipulated on great holidays; seriously carried out the Party’s guidelines and the State’s policies; got involved in making environmental hygiene; well realized patriotic emulation movements, namely “Ethnic minority people helping each other in economic development”, “Paying debt of gratitude”…

Under the campaign of “All people consolidate to build up cultural lifestyle”, many ethnic minority families in the ward have won the “cultural family” title, contributing to improving their quality of life, repulsing social evils and unsound customs in wedding parties, funerals. The ward has also paid attention to taking care of their health; opportunely solved policies for them as stipulated. So far, 100% of ethnic minority children under 6 have been granted health insurance cards…

According to Van Nguyet Anh, Chairman of Phu Cuong ward’s People’s Committee, the ward is now home to 524 ethnic minority households with 2,263 people. Among them, the most populated is Hoa with 504 households and 2,201 people. The majority of the local ethnic minority people earn their lives by small business. They have always united, well obeyed the Party’s guidelines, the State’s policies and closely linked with the community, actively contributing to successfully realizing the local targets on socio-economic development, maintaining the local political security, social order and safety.
