Taking care of trade unionists and laborers amid Covid-19 pandemic

Many workers, especially those in isolation, blockage areas have faced difficulties, due to Covid-19 pandemic.Trade unions at all levels in the province have also realized many practical activities to take care of trade unionists and workers.

Sharing difficulties

Recently, right after detecting a case of worker infected with Covid-19 at the company’s factory, Shyang Hung Cheng Co. Ltd. in Thuan An city has decided to give all employees 14 days off work for Covid-19 prevention and control with the regional minimum wage. From many resources, provincial Labor Union has promptly donated 516 gifts, comprising of necessities like rice, vegetables, fruits, etc., to workers being F1 and F2 cases, helping them stabilize their lives during the current difficult period.

VSIP’s Trade Union visits and offers gifts to Lywayway Company’s employees affected by Covid-19 pandemic

Pham Thi Luyen, a worker of Shyang Hung Cheng Co., Ltd., shared: “The company has been affected by the pandemic. And we had to take a break from work to fight the pandemic, so our income was reduced greatly. Whilst, we have lots of expenses for living away from home, making us get more difficult  The sharing of the community at this time with us is very meaningful. We hope the pandemic will pass quickly and our work will be stable again." Mai Thanh Tuyen, Chairman of the company’s Trade Union shared: “Thanks to the timely support of provincial Labor Union, the lives of workers, especially those with  extremely difficult circumstances have got better during the current difficult period”.

Nguyen Binh Yen, Chairman of the Trade Union of Sao Viet Joint Stock Company in the Dong An 1 Industrial Park in Thuan An city said that the company's difficult employees have also received gifts, including necessities like rice, fruits and vegetables…from provincial Labor Union. This has helped them have more conditions to stabilize their lives, overcoming the pandemic. Standing side by side with employees, Tran Duy Phuong, Chairman of Compass II Co., Ltd.’s Trade Union said that over the past days, the pandemic was very complicated. Many workers in quarantine and blockade areas must temporarily stop working. Facing these difficulties, the company’s Trade Union has stepped up its activities to take care of workers affected by the pandemic. Each of them was given a gift worth VND 300,000, including 10 kg of rice, 1 box of instant noodles, cooking oil, washing powder...

Reliable mainstay

Provincial Labor Union said that as of July 22, Covid-19 pandemic directly affected 562 units, enterprises having trade union locals with nearly 55,000 employees. Provincial Labor Union province have carried out support activities for workers, especially F0, F1 cases and those living in blockage areas.

Le Van Hieu, Chairman of Thuan An city’s Labor Union said that the city's Labor Union has visited and supported 31 trade unionists and workers with extremely difficult circumstances affected by Covid-19, with over VND24 million. In addition, the city’s Labor Union also donated necessities like rice, instant noodles, milk, vegetables, etc. to workers and people in quarantine and blockade areas with total expense of over VND 100 million. In addition, the city's Labor Union coordinated with the city's Division of Labor - Invalids and Social Affairs to mobilize enterprises to offer gifts worth VND500,000 in cash each to 200 children in concentrated isolation areas. Through mobilization work, the city's Labor Union has received VND100million and 40 protective suits from enterprises, donors…for frontline anti-Covid-19 forces in 9 quarantine zones and medical centers…

Dang Thi Kim Chi, Chairwoman of the Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park Association (VSIP)’s Trade Union said that as of July 22, the VSIP’s Trade Union recorded 45 enterprises with a total of nearly 9,000 employees affected by Covid-19 pandemic. The Trade Union also supported 560 workers being F0 cases, 47 being F1 cases and 163 in blockade areas with a total amount of over VND 1.8 billion. Besides, the Trade Union donated tons of necessities like rice, instant noodles, milk…to trade unionists and workers at companies that had to suspend production activities, due to Covid-19 pandemic... with total value of more than VND 400 million.

Whilst, provincial Labor Union has surveyed and supported hundreds of trade unionists and workers who are F0, F1 cases and are in concentrated isolation areas or blockade areas while making efforts to mobilize organizations, individuals to donate tons of necessities like rice, instant noodles, fruits, vegetables, etc., to workers facing difficulties, due to Covid-19 pandemic, at lodging facilities…Particularly, provincial Labor Union supported 2,337 cases with a total amount of nearly VND 3.2 billion. Trade Unions at all levels of the province also visited and supported 61 frontline anti-Covid-19 units with a total amount of nearly VND 2.2 billion (including over VND 874 million from trade union budget, nearly VND1.3billion from socialization sources…). As of July 21, provincial Labor Union spent nearly VND5.3billion (comprising of more than VND 4 billion from trade union budget) on supporting the local Covid-19 prevention and control.
