According to People's Committee of Tan Uyen City, the Provincial People's Committee approved a project to adjust the general planning of Tan Uyen until 2040. Currently, Tan Uyen City is implementing public procedures according to regulations; planning procedures, adjusting zoning planning, and general planning of communes and wards.

The City People's Committee has submitted proposals to the Provincial People's Committee and Provincial Department of Construction for Tan Uyen City People's Committee to organize and develop a project to recognize Tan Uyen City as a class-two urban area under Binh Duong province. After reviewing the criteria for class-two urban areas and self-scoring urban classification according to regulations, Tan Uyen urban area currently reaches 84.57/100 points.

In particular, criterion 1 on position, function, role, structure and level of socio-economic development scored 15.49/18.0 points; Criterion 2 on population size reached 7.98/8.0 points; Criterion 3 on population density reached 6.50/8.0 points; Criterion 4 on the rate of non-agricultural labor reaches 6.0/6.0 points and criterion 5 on the level of infrastructure development, architecture, and urban landscape reaches 48.60/60.0 points.
