TEPCO pays 330 mln USD as 1st compensation to Fukushima victims

Tokyo Electric Power Co. (TEPCO), the operator of Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, paid some 330 million U.S. dollars for healthcare incidents in Fukushima, the first compensation from TEPCO, according to local media Thursday.

 

Last August, the Japanese government decided that TEPCO, Fukushima government and the central government to share the responsibility on paying the huge amount of compensation. TEPCO agreed to the Fukushima government's request to cover the fee on health examinations and other health cares for the victims in Fukushima.

The money will be put into Fukushima's foundation on buying the whole body counter to exam the unclear exposure inside the body and other related equipment.

Fukushima government said that they would keep in touch with TEPCO and ask for more money on other compensation and rehabilitation measures such as cleaning up nuclear pollution.
