A warm Tet get-together for overseas Vietnamese took place at the province on Jan. 25 evening. Nearly 200 overseas Vietnamese (OV) from all over the world have returned Vietnam for lunar New Year celebrations.
A sweet homeland
“Homeland” song performed by the local art troupe made Overseas Vietnamese feel warm at the Tet get-together. Trinh Chau Pha, the US Overseas Vietnamese living in Thuan An district’s Lai Thieu Township said “My native land is in Lai Thieu Township, after living in the US, we are proud of being Vietnamese people. In the US, hearing about local development, we are much moved and want to return our homeland rapidly”.
Local leaders meet with Viet Kieu.
Mrs. Chau Pha said she has witnessed new works of supermarkets, shopping mall, asphalted roads in her homeland and adding that she feels happy as knowing that Thuan An district is going to become Thuan An Town. She decided to return her homeland at her old age.
Dinh Tri Nam, Canadian Overseas Vietnamese said that Binh Duong has changed very quickly whilst Le Huu Hien, the US OV, said “The locality’s change is a miracle. This shows local administration’s proper instructions”.
Overseas Vietnamese - an inseparable part of the Vietnamese nation
At the get-together, Huynh Van Nhi, vice chairman of the provincial People’s Committee repeated President Nguyen Minh Triet’s statement “Viet Kieu (Overseas Vietnamese) are an inseparable part of the Vietnamese nation” and adding that Binh Duong’s achievements are a common result of efforts from local party committee, people and contributions of Viet Kieu. Viet Kieu is an effective bridge helping boost cooperation, friendship between locality and international community.
Local leaders also listened to Viet Kieu’s ideas and urged them to keep national cultural identity as well as hoped that they keep Vietnamese language for their adolescents and that they will contribute to develop Binh Duong into a strong and sustainable industrial center.
