Nearly 100 martial artists from Asian countries including Brunei, Malaysia, Singapore, East Timor and Vietnam are attending the 3rd Southeast Asian Pencak Silat Championships, started in the central province of Thanh Hoa on August 4.

They will be divided into 18 weight categories to compete in both performance and combat events.

 

In 2008, Vietnam topped the medal tally, winning 13 gold, 5 silver and 4 bronze medals when it hosted the tournament for the first time in Ho Chi Minh City.

 

Vietnam will then take part in the world championships in Indonesia in December. The country is set to defend its championship title.
