Nguyen Sy Ho offers incense in Bu Dang martyrs’ cemetery.

Teacher Nguyen Sy Ho – a mathematics collaborating teacher of Tan Binh High School in Tan Uyen, expresses a kind heart to the society by his participation into movements helping people “return martyrs’ remains to families”. Nguyen Sy Ho has been working for nearly 30 years in education and does know what that kindness means. He, specially build a weblog to post information of remains searching.

It is painful for what the war has left behind and for those relatives of fallen soldiers in unknown burial grounds. His family suffered the same pain for not knowing where martyr Nguyen Dang Khoa deceased by the year of 1973 during his campaign in the Southern region.

“My family among millions of Vietnamese family has to suffer from great loss caused by the war. My mom is killed by bombs of the US army in 1972 when my older brother was still in Southern region’s battle field. By 1977, my family received letter informing his death in the Southern region. And our 30 years of searching began. By the beginning of 2008, I was informed of Regiment 271 which has information about my brother. I was very hopeful when the place where my brother deceased was confirmed to be in Long An,” said Nguyen Sy Ho. He finally found out his brother’s resting place in Duc Hue martyrs' cemetery in Long An province.

He reserved all his time after school to the tasks of finding martyrs’ remains. His act was derived from pain and loss brought about by war to families as he said.

In war time, families usually received information without guarantee of errors free. And thus, when fallen soldiers were gathered in martyrs’ cemetery, their relatives would not know about their resting place. As the matter of fact, Nguyen Sy Ho built his weblog at http://teacherho.vnweblogs.com to post information about martyrs from what he has gathered during his searching journey for his brother’s remain and photographs taken in cemeteries and burial grounds. As a result, he has helped to find over 100 burial places of martyrs and informed relating families.

He is also supported by wife who is also a teacher. And, he is paid off for bringing joy to hundreds of families for finding resting places of their once beloved ones.
