The spread among workers

The emulation movement of ‘excellent and creative work’ was launched by the grassroots trade unions under the organization of many practical contents to attracted a large number of union members and workers to follow and effectively bear fruits. In 2021, the emulation movement has benefited the enterprises a total amount of more than VND 500 billion.

Typically, the initiative and creation of ‘Improving fiber optic cable cutters’ by Mr. Dao Van Phong -Maintenance Team Leader under factory engineering department of Fujikura Fiber Opics Vietnam Co. Ltd. in VSIP 1 of 2020 and 2021 which were generally difficult periods for businesses due to the heavy impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. At Fujikura Fiber Opics Vietnam Co., Ltd. the issue of ensuring safety while preventing and controlling COVID-19 epidemic and maintaining production activities has significantly affected the ordering of machinery or components. From these drawbacks, he inspired and motivated Mr. Phong and his colleagues to have good initiatives to help the company overcome difficulties. The initiative of “Automatic fiber optic cable cutting and wrapping machine” brought great benefits in the production of enterprises.

Mr. Dao Van Phong said: "At the time of the COVID-19 outbreak with unpredictable and prolonged developments, the compliance with the message "5K" of Ministry of Health was a prerequisite for all working positions in the factory to always keep a safe distance, so the automation of the process to reduce the density of employees was very much agreed and supported by the Board of Directors. Previously, the company used a cutter bought from Japan, which would wind the cable in and discharge it at the output, and automatically cut it to the set length. If the cutter is 100m, the finished product received may differ by 4m that was quite a lot of waste. The cutting machine was at a very slow speed for a maximum of 800mm/s, so a large number of machines was needed to meet production. In addition, to operate these cutters requires 3 workers (1 operater and 2 people standing at the outlet to take turns winding the product that has been cut into rolls with the required diameter and put on the tray.”

On considering and doing researches on the operating principles as well as the advantages and disadvantages of the machine plus the increased demand for orders and minimizing the number of people standing close together during the COVID-19 epidemic, Mr. Phong has upgraded the cutting machine helping to increase outstanding productivity with only 1 worker to operate. He only kept the blade structure of the former machine, then redoed the entire electrical and driving system to improve the input cable conditioner with more output guide and self-winding system by the adjustable diameter.

After the machine is improved, it can run at 3m/s, which is 3.75 times higher than the former machine. The cutter is more accurate when cutting 100m with the tolerance of only 0.3m. Besides, the machine has also been designed with a mechanism to wrap the product itself after cutting, as a result, the new cutter could automatically cut and wrap. The new machine has contributed to help the company overcome the hard time due to the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic by increasing productivity for the company’s purchase orders with lower product errors, thereby, reducing waste caused by length deviation. Now, only 1 worker can operate the machine, thus, a safe distance during COVID-19 outbreaks. In addition, the new upgrades to the machine can be used to cut those uncuttable by the former one. The initiative has brought economic benefits to enterprises at more than VND 2.3 billion year, and at the same time, reduce labor needs and limit the waste of materials.

During his time working at Fujikura Fiber Optics Vietnam Company, Mr. Phong has had many initiatives and technical solutions for the design and manufacture of new machines and has been successfully deployed such as automatic fiber optic cable stripping machine, the automatically picking, washing and transfering machine for products to enter the next stage, automatic product picker and glue pump, automatic labeling machine, air-conditioner control system via IoT and some other projects.

The emulation of 1 million initiatives

Mrs. Dang Thi Kim Chi, Chairwoman of VSIP Trade Union, said that the improvement of the quality of grassroots trade union activities has been associated with VSIP unions to emulation movements to promote intelligence, to cheer and motivate officials and union members, to propose initiatives and solutions to improve production and business efficiency of enterprises; thereby, improving the operational efficiency and position of the grassroots trade union in the enterprises.

In particular, in 2021, responding to the Program of 75 Thousand Initiatives, Overcoming Difficulties And Developing launched by the Vietnam General Labor Union and deployed by the provincial labor union, the VSIP Trade Union organized and launched it to all affiliated grassroots to attract a large number of union members and workers to effectively respond. In the program, 326 initiatives were updated directly from the grassroots into the software of the Vietnam General Trade Union. In which, Mr. Doan Van Phong's initiative was rewarded by the Vietnam General Trade Union as one of "75 Thousand Initiatives, Overcoming Difficulties and Developing"; at the same time, hundreds of collectives and individuals were rewarded by the Vietnam General Trade Union, the provincial Trade Union, and the VSIP Trade Union.
