Upholding the spirit of senority coupled with modeling, the elderly in the province have responsibly contributed to the construction of a modern and developed locality out of Binh Duong province as part of the action plans of local Association of Elderly to specify the jobs of environment protection, civilized lifestyle, care-taking of health, culture, economy, and family among people of seniority.

Role promotion

Talking to us, Tran Quang Bao, Vice Chairman of the provincial Elderly Association, said: "Our people have a tradition of valuing the elderly, so their voice is very valuable as an example for children and grandchildren to follow and learn from. For that reason, when the elderly join hands and take the lead in movements, the young will learn, follow, and build happy families."

In 2023, innovating the content and form of activities of the Association of the Elderly at all levels has attracted a large number of elderly people. All of the Elderly Associations at district and commune levels have built their own action programs with content appropriate to the characteristics of the local situations. Elderly people's associations in all neighborhoods and hamlets registered to take the lead and set a shining example in every movement. To date, the whole province has built 651 elderly clubs with many different types such as badminton, table tennis, arts, poetry, health care, creating a useful playground for the elderly. Along with that, associations at all levels continue to encourage the elderly to continue promoting their exemplary role, mobilizing everyone to implement the CPV's guidelines and policies, building a strong government.

In the economic field, the province currently has over 15,700 elderly people directly working in production, including 1,717 elderly people who are farm owners, business owners, and service establishments. Thereby, the establishments have created jobs for tens of thousands of rural workers. From the beginning of the year, elderly people in the province have continued to contribute 12,523 working days, donating 7,289 square meters of land, actively contributing to the new rural construction program. Along with that, the provincial Elderly Association signed a joint agreement with the provincial Police in the mass movement to protect national security with 2,801 people participating in self-management groups of regions and hamlets.

To spread the good jobs

In recent years, the Association of the Elderly in districts, towns and cities has generally contributed a significant amount of effort in building the local economy and society. Typically in Di An City, in recent years, the City Elderly Association has mobilized more than 3,500 members to clean the streets; Organize and implement 41 trash-free roads, protecting a clean and beautiful environment managed by 41 groups with 417 elderly members; planted 319 trees; Participate in campaigns for food safety and disease prevention.

In maintaining local security and order, preventing crime and social evils, the Elderly Association in each neighborhood has actively mobilized each family to be highly vigilant against property theft and crime. Fire and explosion prevention, domestic and child violence prevention, traffic safety, do not encroach on the sidewalk to trade or gather to disrupt security and order. From information from the elderly, the authorities coordinated to arrest 15 property theft cases, 8 drug trafficking cases, 5 fraud cases, 3 motorcycle lock cutting cases, and denounced 5 cases dimly lit coffee shop, providing 108 valuable sources of information to security forces. Elderly people also distributed 3,550 sets of documents on drug and crime prevention and control to rented houses and residential areas.

Pham Thi Phai, Chairwoman of Di An city Elderly Association, said that in order to help members have better living conditions, especially difficult households, the association has done well in propaganda and mobilization of support from people and benefactors in the area. In the last 5 years alone, the association has raised nearly VND 1.4 billion, 4,000kg of rice, 3,475 gifts, 10,430 charity meals to help 3,475 members in difficulty including 808 special cases in hard circumstances.

In Bau Bang, Dau Tieng, Bac Tan Uyen districts, the elderly have been active in movement activities, educating the younger generation to stay away from social evils and build happy families. In particular, the elderly in these localities are always at the forefront of the movement to donate land to build rural roads. Thereby, tens of thousands of meters of land were donated to build clear concrete roads, creating momentum for local economic development.

Along with that, movements to help each other develop the family economy are replicated by the elderly. Many billions of VND was contributed by the elderly to build the association fund, then lent members capital for production and business. Thanks to this capital, many families have escaped poverty. In addition, in localities, more and more typical examples of elderly people have appeared associated with many meaningful activities. Many new models have been built by local Elderly Associations such as: "Sharing love", "Phu My shining example of the elderly", "Club activities at the park", "Intergenerational self-help in economic development club”, "5 exemplary citizens" etc. have well promoted the role of the elderly in local emulation movements.

From the practical activities, it can be affirmed that the role of the elderly in the province has been increasingly promoted and has made many positive contributions to economic and social development results and building happy families, ensuring national defense and security of the province.
