The Law on the Elderly goes into life

“After 2 years of implementation, the Law on the Elderly has gone into life. More and more local people have profoundly understood the law”, says Nguyen Xuan Vinh, chairman of the provincial society for the elderly.

  Poor old people have enjoyed assistance from local authorities.

What is the society doing to take the law on the elderly go into life, sir?

To take the law go into life, the society has spurred disseminations. Specifically, right after the law’s enaction (July 1, 2010), the society has held a conference to introduce the law for over 300 officials involving in the work of social support under the sector of Labor, War invalids and Society as well as some leaders from relevant departments and agencies.

Meanwhile, the society at all-levels have constantly held training classes to help members realize significance on rights and interests of the elderly. After 2 years of launching, the society at all-levels have organized 317 conferences with the participation of nearly 28,000 members.

After enaction of the law, what rights and interests have old people enjoyed, sir?

From Jan.1, 2011, the province has had over 10,000 old people of 80 years old and over enjoying social subsidies with VND340,000/month each. And in 2012, the number has been increased up to over 14,000. In addition, they have enjoyed health insurance cards free of charge and support of burial costs if they pass away. In the past Tet holiday, the society at all levels in cooperation with the provincial Fatherland Front Committee and Red Cross Society held Tet-wishing and gift-granting visits for over 3,000 old people.

Additionally, programs on culture and art for the elderly have been forwarded for them.
