In recent years, Nguyen Van Hiep, living in Phu Hoi quarter of Vinh Phu ward, Thuan An town has succeeded in maintaining and earning from high-yield rabbits, contributing to improving his family life.

Effective model

Visiting to NguyenVan Hiep’s rabbit farm, Luu Van Nhan, the Chair of Vinh Phuc ward Farmer Union said that to catch up with the ward’s urban development and to ensure environmental protection, the ward’s households breeding pigs has been mobilized to switch to urban agricultural model with high yield, including high-yield rabbit rearing model. His high-yield rabbit rearing model was built with a large and clean scale. He said: “Ten years ago, I raised grass rabbits but without success. Then I switched to chicken and duck breeding but the return was not as expected. After I have been introduced with high-yield rabbit rearing model and have participated in the training courses, I have decided to carry it out”.

In 2014, he tested raising 10 rabbits with fund of the Farmer Union. Up to now, the number of high-yield rabbit is 60. The rabbits averagely weigh 2-2.5kg/one rabbit and 3-4kg/one rabbit respectively at 3.5-4 and 5 months old. The roe rabbits reproduce with average of 6-8 liters/year and 6-8 ones per a liter after breeding 5-6months. Currently, every day, he sells 3-4 rabbits to earn averagely price of VND 70,000-80,000 per kg. Thanks to the model, his family life has been approved.

Breeding rabbits requires much effort

Mr.Hiep was known as a painstaking and diligent person.  Since his time of raising rabbits, every day, he gets up at 3 A.M. to buy vegetables in Thu Duc wholesale market in Ho Chi Minh City to feed rabbits. Talking about rabbit rearing and caring techniques, he said that to gain high yield in rabbit raising, farmers must have passion and must understand its features. The breeding facilities must be clean and airy. Foods for rabbits must be clean; otherwise, the rabbits will suffer from diarrhea. In particular, the rabbits are the rodent, so they eat a lot at night. Breeders need to pay attention to this so as not to affect its growth ability.

His farm has brought remarkably effect over time; so many people have learnt and visited his farm. According to Mr. Nhan, rabbit meat is currently being of high demands; besides the rabbits are easy to rear to bring high economic yield. Therefore, to expand this farm model, local households breeding rabbits have established a cooperative group to which Mr. Hiep is a member.

It can be said that Mr. Hiep’s success has contributed to opening up new options for the people in Vinh Phu ward in particular and in the province in general to increase income and improve living conditions.
