Update: 09-06-2022 | 11:41:53

Summer comes with lots of fun. After a stressful academic year, students can now relax and have fun to add positive energy for the upcoming new school year. At Binh Duong provincial Library, a summer playground will open up for children to gain more useful knowledge as well as develop more skills and aesthetic talents.

Rich on-site activities

In this summer, besides books to supplement knowledge, children and students of all levels will have more meaningful playgrounds at the provincial library. Ms. Phan Diem Thuy, deputy director of the provincial library, said that the provincial library will start serving summer activities from June 1 to August 15.

Children are delighted when the provincial Library offer them moveable book carts

The provincial Library has carried out propaganda early to attract readers to the library through banners and posters promoting summer activities in the entrance area, campus, lobby and the children's room of the provincial library. In the lobby area inside the library, about 1,000 copies of books and 500 newspapers are displayed throughout the summer to serve readers. Along with the space of books, newspapers, the library also organizes an exhibition of children's paintings of high prizes in 2021. When arriving in this area, not only children but also adults are also attracted by the paintings dynamically and colorfully  drawn by children on paper and ceramic materials. In addition, the library also serves children and parents through specialized information and electronic newsletters.

One of the activities that many people are looking forward to this summer is the Summer Book Festival. Ms. Diem said that in this summer, the provincial Library will organize a Summer Book Festival in two stages on June 11 and August 7. The festival will take place with many activities as performing arts, plays, and puppetry according to books performed by librarians and children's readers of the provincial library. Along with that, the Library will organize more exciting and rewarding games to encourage children to read and have fun such as identifying the author of a work, turning the pages of the book to find the key, creating an ending for the children’s works, ringing the golden bell, designing impressive book covers and folk games, and organizing intellectual games.

During the book festival, there is also an activity where a clown gives an art ball. Children who love to paint and draw can receive a free product to paint statues, sand paintings or decorate their piggy banks. In order to create a variety of organizational forms, as planned, from July 6 to July 20, the provincial Library will organize an online contest under the theme of "My hometown Binh Duong" for elementary and high school students to win great rewards. During summer activities, at the provincial Library, activities of skill groups take place every Saturday and Sunday. The groups all have librarians in charge of living and practicing book storytelling skills, practicing and creating fun and useful crafts from inexpensive, recycled items.

Promoting services outside the library

At the launching ceremony of Action Month for Children and the opening ceremony of summer 2022 organized by the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, the provincial Youth Union in collaboration with the People's Committee of Thu Dau Mot city at Thu Dau Mot Park have made children very excited when being served by the moveable book cart of the provincial Library. In a small open space, the librarians gave out a variety of useful books from scientific inquiries, life skill education to children's books and comics. Looking at the children engrossed and interested delight in the pages of the books, we can see that books still have a strong attraction for children.

This is one of the service activities outside the library that the provincial Library has been maintaining and implementing very effectively, contributing to the development of reading culture in the community. Along with on-site activities, in this summer the provincial Library also strengthens service activities outside the library. Accordingly, the provincial library will coordinate with the libraries of districts, towns and cities to organize moveable book carts to deliver books, newspapers and magazines to serve children in the province. In addition, the Library also organizes book service at educational institutions in the province in activities specifically for teenagers such as cultural space for reading, book display, exhibition, professional activities, etc.

Talking to us, Ms. Thuy added that service activities outside the library always attract a large number of readers. Therefore, in addition to on-site activities, the provincial Library is very interested in serving outside the library. In addition to serving books and newspapers outside service sessions at schools the provincial Library are often associated with topics in order to propagate and educate students with useful knowledge such as prevention of accidents and injuries, drowning prevention and control, preventing and combating school violence and school drug prevention and control.

“The healthy and useful summer activities of the provincial Library are to attract a large number of teenagers, children and students in activities to maintain and develop a reading culture, to consolidate and improve knowledge, promote talents, forte, life skills, and enhancing thinking ability. This is an opportunity for children to discover many interesting things while learning and exchanging learning experiences through books and newspapers in order to contribute to moral and aesthetic education and cultivate love for the fatherland and country, and limit exposure to unhealthy online information and games via social networks and the internet," said Ms. Thuy. The healthy playgrounds, meaningful activities that have been taking place at the provincial Library this summer will bring up a useful and interesting summer for children and students in particular as well as independent ones at the library. The knowledge and skills they have acquired will help them be more bold and confident in life, contribute to the quality improvement of comprehensive education for children to achieve higher results in learning and training, towards a learning society and a cultural beauty in social life.
