Flexible implementation of online teaching
To realize the motto "stop going to school but don't stop learning", in the new school year 2021-2022, the entire education and training branch of Thu Dau Mot City has overcome difficulties and actively implemented online teaching. Teaching activities have been taking place according to the plan amidst the complicated Covid-19. Nguyen Van Chet, Head of Education and Training Office of Thu Dau Mot City, said that in school year 2021-2022, the whole city has over 69,000 students at all levels. Before entering the new school year, teachers, students, and parents have restarted the online learning. The branch's leaders directed schools to organize online teaching not to put pressure or overload on students; must be deployed flexibly, slowly, firmly, closely following the reality of each school; no haste, no subjectivity, no leveling. During the implementation of online teaching, schools leaders regularly supervises, checks and adjusts plans and progress accordingly.
According to the guidance, primary schools have been in place from Sep 16 to 18; carry out the first semester programs from Sep 20, especially to review old knowledge Sep 20 to Oct 1. Schools directed teachers to flexibly implement online teaching methods. In addition, schools also cooperate with parents to apply learning solutions for students in grades 1 and 2 via channel VTV7 of Vietnam Television, which has been coordinated by the Ministry of Education and Training with Vietnam Television.
At this level, Education and Training Office requires principals of primary schools to proactively adjust and develop education plans for the school and each subject, streamline and teach main contents in accordance with the disease situation; perform online teaching in combination with teaching on television for theoretical contents, instruct students to effectively use textbooks for learning. Schools need to cooperate well with students' parents to exchange appropriate timetables so that parents can support students to study safely and effectively; organize online lessons that are not as long as face-to-face lessons to ensure the health and psychophysiologic characteristics of students when they have to come into contact with computers, phones, and televisions. Schools need to especially pay attention to guide parents through safety as using electricity and online learning devices.
For lower-high school education, the time to implement the first-semester programs is similar to that of primary school level. To ensure the quality of online teaching, the office directed school principals, based on the actual situation, to adjust the implementation of each school. For schools that are eligible for online learning, it will be implemented from Sep 20. On the other hand, schools that have not yet satisfied the conditions for technology, qualifications, and equipment, need to actively cooperate with parents and the society to support learning equipment, hand over study sheets, and give assignments by phone to students... Thereby, each school has actively developed a specific plan to teach subjects, a plan to organize educational activities, a lesson plan of teachers, to meet the requirements of active teaching methods in order to develop the quality and capacity of students.
To share difficulties with students
When the whole branch is implementing online teaching and learning, there are still some difficult students who do not have learning devices such as smartphones and computers. From the open letter calling for support of provincial Department of Education and Training, schools actively checked difficult students and found sponsors to help them. Right after that, the branch continuously received good news from schools through this program. At Phu Hoa 3 Primary School, with the support of staff, teachers and students' parents, the school presented 10 smartphones to students having difficult circumstances. Also to take care of these students, the school provides medical insurance, uniforms, books and stationery for them; the total cost was over 52.6 million VND.
Taking care of students' future is the responsibility of school, family and society; When the family could not afford it, there are school and society working together to help students. Recently, leaders of Nguyen Van Cu Junior High School have also given two online learning devices to needy students. Currently, the school is ordering 40 smartphones and will give them to the students as soon as possible.
Sharing the difficulties of students, parents of a grade-six student of Chu Van An Junior High School supported 7 smartphones worth 30 million VND for students having difficult circumstances of the school. The above devices were promptly given by the school to disadvantaged students who do not have online learning devices at beginning of the new school year. Diep Thi Ngoc Dung, Principal of Chu Van An Junior High School, said: “I hope that students all study hard and get good results in this new school year to repay the benefactors' love. The gifts given, gratitude last forever. Our school would like to acknowledge the sympathy of benefactors who has helped disadvantaged students to have good learning opportunities in this difficult period”.
Nguyen Van Chet said that the branch directed that when Thu Dau Mot City returned to the "new normal" state, schools must make the most of face-to-face learning time. This is the "golden time" to implement 100% direct teaching and learning, focus on supplementing knowledge, tutoring weak students, improving knowledge for average students, fostering good students to improve quality of general education, increase the percentage of good and excellent students, and reduce the percentage of weak students. “The city's education and training branch continues to utilize its strengths, overcome difficulties, strive to promote creativity and innovate educational activities to achieve higher results, making worthy contributions to the development of Thu Dau Mot City”, said Nguyen Van Chet.
